lol...my son swears there are gorillas in his closet...telling them(all 4kids) that they don't exist never worked so we made "monster spray" (water in a spray bottle)and it worked...also ...make a routine, every night...bath,story(nothing scary!)and you will probably have to stay with him(or her)till he falls asleep for awhile...slowly move closer to the door over a few nights as he gets comfortable in his bed...it's not easy, but it will work IF you NEVER let him in your bed...they jut love it there, he he...good luck!

Some people will say to not have any monster rituals, because that would verify to the child that monsters are real. I say BS...those people probably never had a 5 yo scared of monsters trying to go to bed!!
Have a ritual where you check every corner and crevice and under the bed and closet etc. for them. Then, have a spray bottle full of water with a touch of scented oil or vanilla extract for a little smellums....make a label for the bottle that says "Monster Repellent" and spray down the room.
Maybe that will help.
Doesn't hurt to have an Anti-Monster amulet (small colorful stone).

you are going to have to show the child each time that there is no monster and remove all objects that can be seen as monsters in the dark.

Maybe you could get them a night light, tell them that it's okay, and show them that there is nothing to be afraid of. Try not to let them think about it before they go to bed, like let them watch something good/happy on TV before going to bed.
