In my experience there was alot of pain i inflicted on others, as well as damage. After many years of my half-hearted attmpts to get away with it by saying i'm sorry, the people in my life said "Don't bother apologizing, we already know you're lying".
i had to learn that actions speak far better than words, and i began to investigate ways to SHOW that i was wrong, promptly admit my wrong, and hope i didn't repeat the same mistake again.
Now i live my life each day, taking a frequent inventory when something seems out of order and making proper amends so that i am seen more than hear.
Besides all of that, God has forgiven you , but God also expects you to learn that you can do better and give more.Sometimes others give up on us , and then we eventually give up on ourselves, but as i have previously stated, from experience, i discovered that Almighty God NEVER gave up on me because God knew my potential.

Cut and paste - in other words, say it just as you did above.
