I have Windows XP software but there is no built in CD drive. Is there anything I can do besides buying an external CD drive?

Before you buy an external CD drive make sure you see if that computer is fast enough to run it. I know of very few laptops that will run XP that don't have an internal CD or DVD drive. Many older laptops though didn't builtin CDs.

until now you do something verify you havent left a cd/dvd interior of thechronic or a usb stick plugged in this is fairly probable you have. in case you have left the two of those interior the laptop and it tries to boot from the two until now the HD then you gets precisely the message you have (the sequence of contraptions the laptop follows to attempt to locate an OS is desperate interior the BIOS)

ive had the same problem with mine befor, just pull out your hard drive, sitck it in the freezer for about ten minutes, since its probably too hot, and stick it back into your computer while its till cold, and start your computer back up, it will work fine.
