Merle Norman generally has good makeup advisers. Stay with neutral colors until you get use to using makeup with color. Then once you are more comfortable begin experimenting.

I recommend calling an avon rep and getting a book(they're free). The books have photos that will give lists of colors so if you're blond and like the look in the photo - try it! Avon is good quality and usually not too expensive and the rep should help you pick items that are good for your coloring. Also Mary Kay does the same but doesn't have a good catalog (or didn't use to). Malls have make up people but I don't like using makeup that has been contaminated by other people and I haven't seen good makeup done at any. Simple is best to start and NOT TOO MUCH or you look cheap.

Go to Target! I love that store and they also have a guide above the makeup. You want to always use eyeshadow that looks good with your eye color. They have certain colors to match. You might just wanna buy a cheap thing of all those color variety of eye shadow and then when you find a color that you are satisfied with, buy the more expensive one that has more shine and lasts longer. Lipstick, i just recommend a shiny lipgloss, but there are also tinted lipgloss. just experiment with the cheap kind first than go up from there. True Match is probably your best bet for concealer.
Good luck!

The foundation is by your skin tone and they have all the colors on their to choose from. It's a vey light make up and it's also good for your skin. They have packages with the brushes and eye shadows, lip stick etc that will match your skin tone. I love their make up, doesn't make you break out, you can sleep in it if you don't remember to take it off, and it's very natural looking. Doesn't look like someone made you up to look like a clown. Some local salons might sell it took if you look around on the internet. You can actually go and try it if they do. I know we have a local salon in PA.

Go to a department store makeup counter or a salon that has a Merle Norman or something. They'll be willing to try all kinds of colors on you and are usually very helpful.

Go to the Prescriptives counter in a Dept. store. They can match your skin tone exactly and tell you what colors flatter you the most. It is well worth it to find your best shades without wasting money on make-up that doesn't work for you.

At ULTA they have a lot of make up kits. if your eyes are brow and your tan you should use brow, tan, stick with dark colors in eyeshadow. if you have dark spots under your eyes DON'T USE PINK it'll just make it worse. if you have big lips use light colors. small ones put a little red

My advice to you is to go to a cosmetic counter i.e. MAC, Chanel, or Clinique. If you don't know what colors to use, they definately will! They'll show you how to apply it, what to apply it with and so much more! Good luck!
