well lately i've been getting all these used computer parts and i figure that there's a way i can turn a profit on them.... how would i do this? i know that i could put together a system and sell it but could i make money selling individual parts? what kind of stuff would i need to test and clean all the parts? do i need to put all the parts in a working computer to check or is there another way? how do i figure out how much to charge for these computers/parts? thanks!

If you have various pieces of items there is a good chance you have outdated equipment and not many people would want it...

There is also a good chance that all of the pieces you have are not compatable enough with eachother to build a complete working system...

You must have the correct type of processors for the mother board, you must also have the correct speed of RAM for the motherboard and processor...

If the computer parts you have are OLD as in below PENTIUM 4 or AMD 1.0GHZ, then I would just donate the items to a local computer shop that might take the items... or build yourself a small server to use for testing or whatever...

However if all of your parts are NEW and you have RANDOM ODDS AND ENDS< then the best way to gain proffit is to INDIVIDUALLY sell the items on EBAY or locally through www.craigslist.com

To find the value of the items you have, you should find out the exact name of the item/s you have then search them on EBAY to see how much other people are selling the same item for.

I find it easier to sell used computers than parts. You can buy solutions to clean motherboards etc. I install a free operating system on the computers I build. Price is dependent on the system and what people are prepared to pay.

My favorite is UBUNTU (or XUBUNTU if the computer has less than 256MB of RAM).

It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system.

You can explore it from the "LIVE CD".

It's easy to install and use. You can dual boot it with other operating systems.

Once you have it installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs created by the open source community. There is excellent support - see the WIKI starter guide, and the Linux forums.

Always back up your data before making changes to your computer.
