I am making a afgan with granny squares. I have never been able to figure out what to do with the tails of yarn on the back. I have tried weaving them, but they always come out. Anyone have any suggestions? The afgan is so pretty on the front.

When I crochet and change yarn color or start I always leave the tails of the yarn long and stitch over them as I go that way when I am done the are already "weaved in" and I can just cut them off. It is probably too late to do this now so what you need to do is take a yarn needle and weave them in. Make sure you secure them at the base of a stitch, not at the top or middle of a stitch. The base of a stitch is the tightest and try to do thru as many as you can then cut off any remaining yarn

Really you are doing the right thing. Perhaps the ends are too short and that is why they don't stay in or maybe you are sewing them in to the gaps rather than the stitches?
