Ok I am about at my wits end...literally....my husband and I are considering getting a "divorce" just to make our lives easier...We are married...been together for 14 years. Didn't have any children until we could afford them and still we only have 1 to ensure that we can provide for him as needed. I go to school full-time...since we make too much...I pay OUT OF POCKET $15,000 a year...My son goes to private school (I can't subject him to the mess they call the public school system)...$5000 a year. We still rent (can't afford a house anyway)

So why does this chick that I know live on HUD has a MUCH nicer place then we do, gets free tuition, her son gets a voucher to attend private as well, free everything!!

Here I am stupid me working FT, going to school FT, my husband works FT...and still NOT living as good as someone on welfare...

She is on welfare with her 3 illegitmate kids and has it better than we do...how messed up is that?

Am I the only one disgusted by this?

Thats the sad reality of welfare. I know people in my home town making more than 2K a month on the various social programs. It is sad that these people don't do sh!t and yet they get rewarded. Here we are busting our asses, paying for their way of life and and they are at home watching soaps.

Sad thing is that if these people are kept in this state, they are a shoe-in for a vote. Seeing as the Democratic Party supports Social programs the most, the lazy gives them their vote.

Wish it was different, but it's not. Personnaly, i'll take my hard days work over sitting on my *** and being a statistic any day.

Just remember this is the best she will ever have it. You will grow out of your situation. I hope that for her childrens sake we give her some kind words. You are lucky you found a spouse to go with you into the world - she doesn't have that advantage. There are good public schools.

I worked, as a single mom after divorce, and got my graduate degrees while working. I did apply for and get scholarships so that helped.

I would consider buying you might find the tax benefits are such that it makes it worth the effort.

I have since moved forward, but to start I bought a small 3 bedroom home with help from programs set up by the US government for middle income people. You might try those.

No, you aren't the only one disgusted by this! My husband and I were in a similar situation not too far back. Do you have a church that you attend or a parish you are affiliated with? Seriously, go to them and tell them what is going on. Our Social Welfare System is corrupt corrupt CORRUPT (and I am speaking with first hand knowledge being a social worker for the past 12 years). Go to the church, you might be surprised as to how many others out there are willing to help fellow Americans that want to help themselves!

PS McClean is a McDope! He should believe it!

It's called the bigotry of low expectations. You CAN'T so the government will do it for you. An earlier post mentioned a good point, she will be stuck there for life. Social programs create their own dependency. FDR himself worried that giving a man something for nothing would break his spirit, and never intended for the New Deal to become a permanent and growing thing. But, you are right to be disgusted b/c in the scenario you describe, who would want to be responsible. Keep your chin up and keep trudging. Try not to look at how much better someone else has it. Our system may improve someday, and you want to be a good example for your son. Welfare moms tend to raise welfare children. It's a breeding ground for the politicians who like to promise more social programs.

You can put me down as ANOTHER that is disgusted with this. The reason for this is because our GOVERNMENT is IRRESPONSIBLE. With social security going broke, they are trying to sneak a bill through congress that would award social security to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. The elected politicians have a retirement plan and health care that is 100% but they will not ever attempt to do anything about the social security crisis. They use the welfare as payment for the votes they expect to get to keep them in office. They talk all these games but do the opposite. Our energy situation could be solved by building around 100 plants across the country that convert coal to liquid fuel but they will not do that because the oil companies have them in their hip pockets. I promise you, I SHALL VOTE FOR AN INDEPENDENT OR A WRITE IN CANDIDATE in the future elections. Neither Democrats or Republicans DESERVE my vote, or anyone Else's, and it is high time that the voters wake up.

While I agree with the majority of your argument, I believe that the child, not the mother, deserves the private school voucher. While this creature is obviously playing the system, that does not mean that her child does not deserve a good education. He had no choice in the matter in deciding who his parents are. Just as you feel your child should not be subjected to the public schools, neither should this child.

In regards to bildymooners comment, school vouchers are a conservative ideal, most liberals are against them.

Yeah, it is badly set up. I don't know much about welfare, but I know that the education system would rather PUT a person in poverty by making them pay the higher education costs while giving someone who makes little less (or works under the table and pretends to make less) full everything.

It sucks.

Because well meaning liberals never look back to see what effect their policies are having. But it sure makes them feel good to give out other people's money.

This is why many of the wealthiest liberals donate very little of their own money to charity and go through great lengths to shelter their own income from taxes.

NO! You are not alone in this. I am sick of paying out the nose for everyone else on the planet while my husband and I work ourselves to the bone. How much do you want to bet your acquaintance who has everything paid for her is illegal?

That's a question a lot of us would like answered. And for anyone who thinks she's making this up, she isn't, I've seen the same thing. It is disgusting indeed.
