I went to the doctors today and he told me that he thinks I might be developing preeclampsia. I have had horrible cramping with no cervical change, my blood pressure was high today, high proteins in my urine for the past month or so and I gained 3 pounds this week. My legs are huge and bright red. He wants me to go back tomorrow for another sugar test and then back again on Tuesday for another checkup. Has anyone else had this happen and what was the outcome? I am 38 weeks and not worried if I have to be induced, but I am worried about the health of my baby. Did you have to be induced or just monitored?

At 38 weeks, your baby is already considered full-term. But the conditions in the uterus can be stressful for the baby if the preeclampsia is severe. You should definitely speak with your doctor about this though. I would assume your child should be born healthy, but I'm not a doctor! =P

I had severe preeclampsia...insanely high blood pressure, on the verge of seizing, insane swelling ALL over, and at one point I actually had a 14 lb. weightgain in less than a week (due to the freakin swelling!)...etc, etc. Anyway, it was pretty bad, you get the picture. I was on bedrest for two weeks and then I was monitored in the hospital for 4 days and then it got SO bad that I had an emergency c-section at 27 weeks. I was in the hospital for about 5 or 6 days more (and my daughter was there for 4 months).

Follow your doctors orders...I'm sure they told you to keep your legs elevated and watch your salt intake, etc. And try not to stress too much...I know that's way easier said than done.

I hope you deliver a healthy and happy baby and have a smooth recovery!

I did with my oldest daughter.....I didn't have to be induced because when we set it up she decided to come two days before that. I was very closely monitored and had to see the doctor at least twice a week and have non stress tests and ultrasounds to check on her. She was born a very healthy 8 pound 6 ounce baby and is now an extremely healthy 6 1/2 year old.

Preeclampsia is more of a risk to mommy than baby....as the high blood pressure can cause a stroke etc.

I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and was induced just 3 days before my due date. I had gained 4 pounds in one week. My daughter was 7 pounds 6 ounces and perfectly healthy. Try not to stress too much! I know easier said than done. Other than seeing my doctor often the only difference was that during labor I had a blood pressure cuff on constantly. Good luck!

I had it with my 1st pregnancy. But where you are at in your pregnancy you really need to just stay off your feet and in the bed. I was induced at 38 wks because of my BP it was 190/100. Risk of me and baby having a stroke was high. My son come out fine and I made it thru the induction well. I also was gestational diabetic on top of it all. Make sure you are not drinking any sodas cut out all the sodium you can and drink alot of water. Keep your feet up as much as possible. You should be OK and delivering soon. Good luck and Congrats!

well at 38 weeks you are concerted full term. I had to be induce due to high blood pressure at 39 weeks. My baby was fine if you get a real bad headache or see spots then go to the hospital or call your doctor. I would just try to stay of your feet as much as possible

No, it doesn't automatically mean that, but as with any pregnancy, be sure to have regular prenatal checkups and report to your doctor any unusual swelling (more than normal swelling of ankles, any swelling of face, eyes, etc.). If you are concerned, keeping a blood pressure monitor at home will also help. Take a regular reading at the same time each day, preferably the morning. Any rises in blood pressure should be reported immediately to your doctor. Anything over 130/75 is probably getting up there.

A little of eah. Pre-eclampsia can be very dangerous for you BUT if he hasn't hospitalized you stay he's not too concerned. Stay off your feet as much as possible. Drinks lots of good water and try to relax. (It helps your BP) They will probably do non stress tests in the next week or so to check on the baby and if you continue to have problems they may want to induce you. Good luck you don't have to far to go.

I had to be induced 3 weeks early....its was completely fine. I gained about 60lbs due to it(mostly water weight). If your blood pressure is uncontrollable during labor...they'll decide to do a C-section. I don't understand why your Dr. is taking his time with this. Once I was diagnosed...they induced me 2 days later.

I was just closely monitored. They did fetal stress tests every few days. My son was born healthy though, so hang in there, it is all almost over for you!
