How hard is it to get into Stanford? What is the school "known" for? I need to know all about Stanford U. I'm not going to college for a few years, but I feel that I need to start looking into what I need to do.

It is very hard to get into; one of the most selective and prestigious Universities in America. Like the poster above me said, do not let this discourage you. Just focus on doing the best you can through out high school (I am talking about mostly straight A's, and a 3.85+ GPA). Take the hardest classes your hig school offers; for 9th and 10th grade that is usually honors or gifted classes and for 11th and 12th grade those are AP or IB classes. If your high school does not offer challenging classes then look into dual enrolling in a community college your junior year. Start studying for your SAT around the end of 10th grade, this is very important. Start reading as much as you can in terms of book; they can be anything you enjoy reading. The more you read the more it will help you later down the road. I would start playing a sport now (if you can), and try to play that sport on your high school team. Top colleges love to see athletes, under represented minorities, people who have family members that went to their school, low income, and of course the academically gifted. During the summer I would look into finding some leadership positions, do extracurricular activities through out high school, and do a lot of community services (pick something you will enjoy doing because this can be a rewarding experience you can continue doing even after you are accepted). As you can see, there are ALOT of things you have to do to be considered competitive for top colleges like Stanford.

Good luck, and I hope you get in.

Stanford is an outstanding school known in a number of areas, from medicine to computer science. It is extremely hard to get into, but don't let that discourage you. If you aren't going to college for a few years, you still have time to develop the kind of terrific record you would need. And you might run into my nephew, whose dream it has always been to go there (and he's only 12 right now).
