I love my Colbalt. Excellent power (it takes off with only 4 cylenders, to 80 in 15) good interior design-fold down rear seats, tilt, cruise, etc,) but ignition went out, and that burned out CC, and now the ignition key switch on wheel column locks and I have to restart to remove key. Anybody had similar. Buy American!

Your Problem needs to be looked at and Fixed weather or not if the care is in or out of warrenty. Go to a Chevy Dealer and ask if there are related problems. If so see if there are any recalls.

Look at your problem. Do you want this to happen to you while your Driving also? Not me!

Something is wrong in this area in the steering colum and or lack of parts to prevent this. If it is a Lack of parts then this is a Engineering flaw.

This problem sounds like some parts are not aligned up properly or somthing is proken where you not hearing or feeling the problem.

Steering Colums thses days with the AIRBAG are harder to listen to for some faults or early warning for something getting ready to malfunction or not work.

Wow, I agree. it's hard to give meaningful advice on this. I've got an 2006 Cobalt LT that I got new, and I haven't had ANY of the problems that you're describing at all. I've got a little over 12,000 miles on it now. My on board dash computer & lights work fine. The only issue I had with it was the key would get stuck in the ignition & I couldn't get it out. That was quickly fixed under the warrenty with less than a week of down time. You should look into the lemon law on this, it sound like your car picked up a wild pack of gremlins on it's way off the lot. So far my cobalt has been a fine running car. I have yet to get the 36 MPG they claim it has, but it's a respectable 28 MPG unless I totally baby it. I hope this helps.

We were looking at purchasing the Colbalt and several other vehicles; however, we read all the private person comments on the vehicle and decided to go with the Hyundai, Elanta. You can pull up all the comments about the Colbalt on you computer and read about the troubles and problems with GM ability to make repairs; maybe, you can get some ideas on how you can make the repairs; because, according to some of the people to purchase the vehicle can not bet Chevy to repair it correctly without having the vehicle in the shop for a few days and still not get the repairs done the first time. Good Luck!

Your first problem is you bought an american piece of crap that is mostly made of foriegn parts put together by lazy workers in lordstown, Ohio.
Next time buy a REAL american car made in OHIO as well, a HONDA and you'll never have problems.

Repairs to this should be under warranty so I would suggest taking it by the dealer.
