Google Earth is not live. Satellites orbit the Earth 18 times a day and only spend a minute or two over one spot on the ground. And as they orbit the Earth turns under them so that they do not pass over the same place each orbit. Add to that the possibility of clouds, and satellites usually can only take clear pictures of any given spot once every few days. If you want really recent images, you will need to pay the satellite company (or aerial photographic company; not all Google Earth images are from satellites) to take a special image. Otherwise you just get whatever archived images are available, some of which may be years old.

Many of these images are several years old. I can still see my old car parked behind the house I moved out of in 2003. I think the high-resolution pictures are mostly aerial photographs, not satellite shots. If you think about how many pictures you'd have to take to keep Google Earth up to date all around the globe, you'd realize it isn't practical. They do add updated imagery regularly, but most of it concentrates on adding higher resolution images of selected areas. You can read about recent upgrades on their forum at http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/postlist.php/Cat/0/Board/latest .

I found a free downlaod of Google Earth here http://bit.ly/1zK8tsQ.
Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographical information program that maps the Earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and geographic information system

Then why are USGS images ( not live ) of same areas up to date? I use the USGS earthquake website and the images of my property and the surrounding properties are up to date as well, so are the realtor property website images. So I find it hard to believe that the excuses you or google earth give to us are true, the USGS earthquake website is a free site and the only difference is that google earth will allow you to zoom in a bit more that USGS will but at least they're up to date and we're talking last date for google images in my area is 2013, that's 4 yrs. old! So anyone who wants/needs to get current images I'd advise to go to the USGS website, you don't have to sign up for it but can get current earthquake notifications sent to your email and even choose the areas as well as the magnitude level so that you won't get too many emails, I live on west coast of CA and even with it set to lowest level of 2.0 magnitude or higher I don't get flooded with too many emails from them and this is available worldwide also, so use their site for what google won't give you plus stay up to date on earthquakes locally and or worldwide, you can even file did you feel it reports and see how many others felt it too!

Have you any idea how many images are required? There is a matrix of satellites that have to take a series of photos and 'stitch' them together. Considering all the ground that is covered, they do a great job.
Do we really want 'real time' of what everyone is doing at any time?

Because you've got to pay for the live image or real time; the ones for free are the old ones.

it extremely is a intense priced affair for Google earth to offer us loose photographs for loose. they might desire to purchase the photos and supply it loose for us. in case you choose modern and stay photographs, then you definately could touch US protection stress. which isn't passable for us. attempt to fulfill with what we've become for loose.

It takes 5 months for them to mail the pictures from outer space to earth, then one month to censor them before you can try and check out your next door neighbor sunbathing nude.
