Guess your previous printer driver is causing you grief...was it USB?
Control Panel> Add Remove Hardware> Remove the previous printer driver, re-boot, try to install again. No success? Repeat the routine, but, DO NOT install your printer.
with your printer disconnected, go to "control Panel>System>Device Manager>View>Hidden Devices, look for either printer in the USB section. If either printer is mentioned, DELETE.
Panic not what you delete here, assuming you have the install discs for say your scanner, when you restart, clear any probs using your install discs.
Restart to ensure all is well, but do not connect your printer. All settled?
Now, keep printer off, put disc in, follw the prompts, should load up ok.
When you got your printer running, have a look at this. if you are UK, its 40 pence a cartridge, USA about 25 cents...

Could be a lot of reasons. First make sure your USB ports are enabled in your bios. Make sure when you install the software you follow directions. sometimes plugging in the printer before you install the software can corrupt an installation. Make sure you are using the correct port. Some software requires you to choose parallel or USB. Picking the wrong one could cause that problem. It could also be a hardware failure in one or the other.

You can try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Worst case try to use another computer to test the printer out.
