I am going to get an acoustic/electric guitar, but I don't know what brand I should get. Do I need to get a turner? What about instructional DVD's? I was thinking about getting this package but I am not sure if is a good idea. I don't want to buy anything I don't need. http://www.zzounds.com/item--EPIPR4EPAK

To Start off, believe me, you don't need anything fancy. As far as beginner acoustics or electric/acoustics I would recommend Fender, Epiphone, Ibanez, or Yamaha. They don't cost very much, and can come in packages that include, a carrying case, picks, instructional books and dvds, a strap, and a tuner. It might seem like a lot, but you will eventually need all of it and it is cheaper in a package. For beginner electrics, your best bet would be a squire. These come in similar packages and also come with an amp and all the necessary wires. I think what you have picked out is probably perfect for you. On another note, I would definitely recommend that you take lessons, even if only for a six month or one year period. You will learn all the basics and technical stuff you need and then you can take it from there. That's what I did and I consider myself to be proficient enough if not more proficient than I need to be to play in a band. As you go and play more difficult stuff, you will get better. Just play what you like.

the website that u have linked up here is good everything in the package is what u need to get started to play the guitar on your own w/o a teacher. After u start learning and get the hang of it u should get the chords off line it is free most of the time.
Have fun!!

Get a guitar, amp (if electric), tuner, and an internet connection (you probably already have this)

then look up "guitar tabs"

or "guitar chords"

etc.

Don't pay for something if you can get it for free on the internet.
