You are White, The problem is this. 80% of the Spanish speaking people in the US are not. They are Hispanic. Hispanics make up all of Latin America
Central America and all Spanish speaking islands in the Caribbean etc.
Most Hispanics say they are Spanish, some have no Spanish blood at all. Some have some Spanish blood.
When the Spanish conquered The Americas , Their language and some babies were left behind as in any war.
The Spanish of Spain are of the same stock as the French and Italians.
In this day and age people are more ignorant than ever of this fact. Example , The people of Haiti speak French and some have French Blood . This does not make them French and similar to you , it would be like calling all French people Black because Haitians speak French.
I hope this clears things up.

Some Spanish ancestry is from Northern Africa, I.E. the Moors. That's the reason some people might, technically, say you're not white. The Castilian Spanish are emigres from Northern Europe and are, therefore, lighter in color. Your knowledge of Spanish aside, your skin tone is derived from where your Spanish ancestors came from. I don't think that Hispanics are considered people of color, though I may be wrong on that (at least not by me).

By the way, 30% is WAY OVER STATED!!!!!!! its probably closer to 20% or 23%.
Why does it matter if you are white or not? be happy with who you are. I am white and just wish I could hold a tan... Swedish, English, German, Russian.... Now thats WHITE. I can speak Spanish.
You would be better off explaining yourself to a brick wall than these ignorant people. At least you won't get a stupid argument.

You are white. Most people from spain don't have dark skin. This is a common misconception that ignorant people have taken at face value. Some people are just racist bigots who have nothing better to do but insult other people. Not that being anything other than white is something to be ashamed of. In my opinion, color, race, and ethnicity have no significance in this day and age. We're all just people.

It's funny that you bring this up. I was friends with a guy in high school who was Portugese and he swears he isn't white. I think, if we're speaking in terms of "white" meaning European-American or of European decent, then yes, you're white and so was he. If you want to get more technical and literal than that, you're Spanish and he's Portugese. I find it funny when people call all black people "African-American", all hispanics are "Mexican", and all white people are "Caucasian", considering that a great number of dark-skinned, or "black" people aren't African, being Hispanic can mean you're from any number of countries, and being "Caucasian" means that you're decendant of the Caucas mountains, which again, a great number of "white" people aren't.
Sorry it bothers you, I can certainly understand how it would be frustrating.

The real question is why are you so offended by it? Is being white the cool thing now a days. Before you go around talking about people in this country being an uneducated collective, you should try to analyze your psychological fixation with people thinking you're not white.

You know why people don't know which race to assign to people any more?
Because racial categories are no longer accurate or useful.
Why worry about your race?
I am a Pound Puppy, a mixture of so many races that I honestly don't fit in the pigeon holes.
I always check "Other".
When enough people fill in the Race blank on forms with "Other" the question will cease to be asked.
Good luck

If you knew German, would that make you a German? If you learned Russian, would that make you Russian?
Don't argue with idiots, it is a losing proposition. Just smile at them, say "Whatever" and go on.
And it just may be your reaction to the statement that people enjoy tormenting you about it. Some people love to get others stirred up about a subject. Quit reacting to it, and they will probably drop it if they can't get a reaction.
