diaper...something a lot of people don't think about is medicine, and she will need it! (Tylenol, gas medicine) (they have a whole kit of medicine for babies at walmart) I got a really pretty baby blanket with my daughters name embroidered on it. Also....A gift for mom would be very much appreciated!! (If shes anything like the rest of the pregos in the world I bet she could go for a massage right about now, if they don't have the tummy table at the massage ther. don't worry the make accommodations for pregnant women)

I would say if you really want to go all out, that you could get a crib, and the bed set, or basinet with the set also, that could be like the "big" gift. I also found it VERY helpful when I received diapers as a gift from my Mom, try not to get too many newborn though, the baby outgrows them quickly, try to get like sizes 1, and 2 mostly because other guests might get some also, and if they do, most people tend to buy newborn. Is she registered anywhere??? That is a very good idea, if everyone will shop at the same store, then there aren't soo many doubles, or if everyone gets together to let ya know what is already bought, and whats not. Another good gift is lotions, shampoo, baby oil, fingernail clippers, bottles---you can never have to much of that stuff. A diaper bag is another option, then you could fill it with all the lotions and what not. Also, if you want to get something for her--this is really good idea, ---hardly anyone remembers Mom at the shower---you could get her a nice robe and socks, and general toiletries and put it a bag for her for the hospital. My Mom, did this for me, and it was great. She put it all in a tote for me, so I didn't have to worry about packing for the hospital...you'll want to remember toothpaste, and probably some magazines, I think the hospital keeps Mom's for like 3 days after birth now, (in Indiana anyway.)
Hopefully that helps you :-)

The front pack is great i loved mine and it was used religiously. As for the crib this may be something she want to pick out since most people use their cribs with every child. But if you are purchasing the crib then ask if she would like he changing table to match or if she thinks that she will use it. I had one with my first and it was just somewhere to throw everything that was in my hands.Bathing stuff is a great idea as well. A new mom can never have enough baby bath, and on that note diapers are always the best thing. I recently had a shower and got tons of clothes and very little diapers and baby bath. I love everything but i wish i could of had a few more packs of diapers and less clothes.

I wish I had recieved a baby carrier at my shower, that way I could've used it sooner!! They are wonderful!! They can be expensive but well worth the price! A crib is wonderful, of course, and I would suggest asking her what theme she is going with for the nursery and try to find items that would help decorate the room. Another great thing is a heartbeat bear. My baby has not had colic but it is common in some babies and I have read that the sound of the heartbeat soothes them, and even if they don't have colic it helps them sleep better since it reminds them of being all snug and warm in the mother's womb. Hope that helps!! Happy shopping and congrats on the honor of being the Godmother!

It really depends on what she already has. I would make sure that if you buy the crib that it is what she wants or I would leave that one up to her. NOt that you wouldn't pick out one that she likes, but when you are first time Mom, you usually want things a certain way! Some other things are a swing, high chair, bouncy seat, stroller, car seat. Those are all very useful. Another thing is a diaper cake is really cool. You can look on ebay and find some really cute ones. They have tons of diapers in them and also other neccessities, plus they are just really cute! Good Luck and you are a great friend!

diapers are always a good thing to give. a baby carrier is also a very good idea, those come in handy. if you want to give her a crib, just make sure she doesnt have one yet. if you buy clothes, buy all different sizes rather than just newborn. but try to keep in mind that if you buy bigger sizes the seasons change, it wont always be the season he/she was born in. so try to think about what the season will be when the baby is going to wear the clothes you buy. (the only reason i say this is because at my baby shower people were really good about buying different sizes, but they were all summer clothes some of them never got worn because obviously i cant put my daughter in a tank top during winter.)

When I had my baby shower I was happy that people thought ahead and got me 3 to 6 month and 6 to 9 month clothes but no one thought when he became that age that it was going to be COLD! (I had a summer baby!) So I was in a mad struggle to get some warmer clothes when he hit 6 months! I would suggest getting the older baby clothes and older baby diapers, remembering that it will be warmer out when the baby gets here. On another note- something fun for the shower, before hand wrap her belly in a plaster and let it dry so at the shower all the friends and family can write a note to the baby and he or she can see how big her or his mommy was well pregnant!

I received alot of big gifts mainly hand me downs which i didnt mind at all but what i didnt get and really wanted was the baby carrier, diapers also wipes specially made for newborns(ireceived the normal ones and later found out that they are bad for babie's skin), A bathing station that was made for newborns and toddlers(also one with a little hose so that i didnt have to fill the tub up so much and rinsing would have been way easier). ONE THING THAT I DID GET AND AM VERY GRATEFUL FOR WAS THE STROLLER THAT HAD A MATCHING CARSEAT THAT LOCKED IN FROM THE CAR TO THE STROLLER IT WAS A REALLY EASY WAY TO GET HIM IN AND OUT QUICKLY WITHOUT WAKING HIM UP.

Well with a first baby all the little cutsie things look appealing but in all practical situations if you want to get her something that she will use, then you can get a big baby hamper and fill it with diapers, onesies. baby bath, diaper cream, a baby manicure set, baby Tylenol drops, baby gas drops. baby wipes, an ear thermometer, and if you feel you must buy a large gift, if you can afford a crib bless you, but she will need, a port a crib, swing and a stroller, you can get the stroller that has the car seat with it. hope this helps.

I agree with the other two on the diapers many people worry about the bigger things but what we never get is diapers and things that we will need right away. When I was pregnant I also wanted to receive a stroller and a breast pump. That's if she plans on breastfeeding I find it a big necessity. But the stroller is definitely a good idea. I am 23.

I am going to have a baby shower this weekend...I gave out a list for my friends as they requested it...but what I really really want? A big Wal Mart gift card for diapers.
From what I heard, a baby will use an average of $2000 worth of diapers....
