depends, i had my membrains sweeped on a wednesday ( i was 3 cm then) and i came in on friday and i was a 4 cm. but i had not had a contraction. my doctor decided to just break my water. it works for some people and it does nothing for others....good luck

you could never really tell with these situation are you at home or at the hospital... try walking around or if you have a pilates ball just sit on it with your legs open and rock on it hold on to something of course.... that helped me and it helped with back pain
