Phoenix is awesome. The heat is only bad from May-September. The rest of the year it's gorgeous. The traffic can be bad, but that's true of anywhere. Price of living isn't as bad as California, but can be pretty steep sometimes. But there's great things to do in the area and the economy is booming. I love it here.

I would never consider Phoenix a "crappy" place to live. I have lived here 20 years and I can't imagine being anywhere else. I came from cold country and 3 months of heat is so much better than 9 months of cold and bitter wind. I haven't shoveled snow in all that time either. The worst part about Phoenix is taking care of the swimming pool in the backyard and dealing with the traffic. More and more people keep moving here and the roads aren't keeping up with the population.

It depends where you live now. If you live in the snowbelt, you really need to go in the summer, before you move, because it might be too much for you...but if you have to stay in because its 108f, or 8f outside, 108f is better because you can go in the pool
