Eastern Europe, Poland Russia Serbia etc. Also the meaning of slavs isn't slave but it comes from the slavonic word of ''slava'' which means glory, in a simple translation it means ''glorious people''.

Slavs is the abbreviated form for Slavic. Slavic refers primarily to a group of people most often associated by language and ethnic backgrounds.
Slavic people originated from Eastern Europe and are now characterized mainly by language.
The Slavic peoples are primarily Greek: Σκλαβηνοί, Latin: Sclaveni, Arabic: صÙاÙبة, Old Church Slavonic: SlovÄne, Russian: СлавÑне, Polish: SÅowianie, Serbian: Словени/Sloveni), Croatian: Slaveni, Bulgarian: СлавÑни)
Technically neither slaves nor barbarians Slavs did however spend a good part of history under foreign rule. Most notably a large number were slain by the Nazis during WWII.

Slavs are generally divided into three groups. The East Slavs are Russians, Belorussians, and Ukrainians, West Slavs are Poles, Czechs, and Slovaks, and South Slavs are people from the former Yugoslavia (literally, Land of the south Slavs).
It's more of a linguistic division than genetic, I think, due to the many invasions and migrations in the area. The name Slav derives from the word "slava" (glory), and it may have given rise to our word Slave, as they were no doubt sometimes taken as slaves by their neighbors.
