I am so in love with my new baby boy. I'm 23 weeks pregnant. Feeling him kick is so amazing to me. I can't WAIT TO HOLD HIM!!! I wanna kiss his little belly and cuddle with him and make him laugh. This is my first pregnancy and I had no prior miscarriages. So what are my chances of the possiblity of losing him at this point? Cause I would be devestated. He is the most important thing happening in my life right now. (Doctor said everything looked good.) But, I'm diabetic and I get scared.

The chance of miscarriage drops off significantly after 12 weeks. Certainly there is always a chance that something will go wrong, but I think you can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Make sure you see your dr on schedule. Take good care of your blood sugar. Report to your dr immediately if anything happens or if you are worried about anything.

PS I like that name.

I am also diabetic and just follow your diet well and drink plenty of water. Take your vitamins too. Relax and don't stress over anything. Are you seeing the high risk doctors? I have been seeing them since about 20 wks along. I am 34 wks and 2days and he is gaining weight like a weed, but all is well so far.. he does have a small hole in his heart called VSD from my diabetes, but it can most likely be corrected with medication after birth.. I am not going to stress over it though.. it will only hurt the baby.. his name is Aiden Jacob. He moves all the time and that is an awesome feeling. I am being induced in 4 wks and just can't believe how close that is...lol. Just make sure you are keeping a close eye on your carbs and keeping your sugars under 120. You'll be fine and before you know it you will loving on that little boy. Good luck and Congrats.. boys are so much fun.. but remember BOYS will be BOYS .. rough and tough!! Mom of Addison Joseph and soon Aiden!!

The chances are pretty low at this point....especially if your doctor is telling you everything looks good.

Even if something did happen now it would not be considered a miscarriage.....there was just a baby in Florida that was born at 22 weeks and is doing great right now. I also new a lady personally that had her baby at 24 weeks and although the first few weeks of life were very stressful for them he is now a beautiful healthy 4 year old little boy.

I think that at this stage, the chance of losing the baby is small. It wouldn't be a miscarriage at this point...you'd have to labor and deliver the baby and it would be stillborn.

However, if everything looks good, it looks good. The organs and what not are developed at this point and are just maturing. The reason miscarriage is so likely earlier is because the dna is coming together and creating all the organs and other parts of the baby. If a piece of it is missing, it makes life not viable and the baby dies. Since we know all the vital part of the baby are there and functioning now, losing the baby is less likely and birth defects would be more of a concern.

I wouldn't worry so much. Worrying isn't good for you or the baby and what will be, will be.

Good luck!

The chances are low. Just make sure you keep track of your diabetes and he should be just fine. If the docotor said everything was fine just take his word for it and everything should be fine. Take a look at this website it might ease your mind a lil bit. It has helped me through my pregnancy. I am 38 weeks and about to deliver a healthy baby boy also. If you need someone to talk to you can email or IM me I am on most of the time. Congrats and Good Luck

If you have had a healthy pregnancy so far, then the odds are there but less likely. The longer in your pregnancy you go, the less likely you will miscarry. But I understand! Having a child is very nerve racking!!! Just try not to stress out all the time, cause thats not good for the baby either. Good luck and I'm sure everything will be fine!

Your best bet is go to babycenter.com and read some of their forums. I delivered my baby boy at 34wks 5 days and he is healthy as can be. They discovered late that I was a gestational diabetic.
From what I have read at 26 weeks the baby has a 50-50 chance, but with all of the medical benifits and procedures we have now its on the upside.
Make sure you keep in contact with a diabetic counselor at your hospital where your son will be born. They can personally work with you to make sure that everything from your insulin, diet and exercise will keep him in.
If you do go into preterm labor they have several different medications that can help stop the contractions. If you go to www.webmd.com and type in medications for preterm labor there is extensive information. You can also ask your doctor what medications they would give you since you are diabetic.
My only concern would be the betamethasone shot that helps the baby's lungs produce mucas so that they can take their first breath after delivery. In me it shot my bs up to 197. It does decrease the way your body metabolises sugar but it is very benifical to your baby. They may have to up your insulin for that. Also if you are diabetic you should have your doctor watch the baby's weight very carefully. My son was 5 weeks early and weighed in at 6 lbs 4 oz. My sister in law who had bp problems delivered her son 5 weeks early he was born at 3 lbs. so our bs creates heavier babies.
Hope all this helps :) But I think you will do just fine. There is a higher incidence of premies in this country but most of them turn out just fine. Mine is. I will keep you in my prayers.

It's normal to worry but try not to get stressed out.

Twenty-three to twenty-seven weeks gestation:

The longer an infant is in its mother’s womb to grow, the better. Only a week can make a substantial difference of how a baby will survive outside of the womb, if born early. At twenty-three weeks, the rates of survival go up from 10 to 35 percent. At twenty-seven weeks the survival rate is above 90 percent.

Best of luck for you and your baby.

I am in the same boat you are in. I am 23 weeks and having a little boy. I can't wait for him to come either. I am so excited, and I would die if anything was to happen to him. I have finally figured out that I am going to name him Aden Nicolas. My OB-GYN told me that it is a very slim chance of having a miscarriage. The baby is too big, and depending on his placenta. If anything was to happen it would be born stillborn. I wish you the best of luck. Congrads. You can IM me at Jessinay2007.

My first child was born at 36 wks. with her intestines on the outside of her body.. I believe that If you have full Faith and Believe, everything will be alright. Being a diabetic, I understand your concern but if you're doing what you are suppose to do then I wouldn't be so worried. From a mother to a new mother I still understand you're concerns.
