Clearly, the MLB needs to get rid of the guy they have right now. Thankfully he's not a Bettman or a Stern, but he's no Tagliabue, either. There was talk at one point of trying to elevate an ex-president to the ranks of baseball commissioner. I don't think that's a bad idea. Given his background as a baseball executive (with the Texas Rangers), would George W. Bush be a candidate for you? If not, who should be the next commissioner and where should they come from: the sport, government or the business world?

No, he is not a good president and he wouldn't be a good commissioner.

Well, I'm sure he would be more interested in the issues, but all the hooplah about him being a past president might keep anything from getting done. I think Mike Greene from Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio would be alright. He's a good personality, has connections in sports, and obviously cares about the issues. I dont think the commish is doing that bad of a job right now, i think baseball's popularity has really come back. If they woulda just stayed on top of the steroids issue, or not made it so public and taken care of it when they found out about it, baseball would really have NO problems. I mean think about it, other than steroids, what is wrong with baseball? The All-Star game is popular again, and now it means something for the playoffs. I think its going great. G.W. isnt the answer, ending the steroids issue is.

Um, no.

His tenure with the Rangers was a disaster, as is his tenure as US President. As much as many like to dislike Selig, at least baseball is prospering.

They had a better commissioner, but the owners basically didn't like what he had to say, so they fired him.

If they want a new commissioner, they need someone who loves the game, knows business and has been a successful businessman, but not a robber baron. And they need to promise to uphold the lifetime ban of Pete Rose.

Warren Buffett would be great, if he were interested.

Absolutely not. He owned the Texas Rangers and ran them into the ground. He is dishonest, disloyal and generally a very bad businessman who had to be bailed out by Mommy and Daddy several times. That, coupled with his infinite inability to use the English language effectively and his general lack of intelligence makes him a terrible candidate for the position. Besides, by the time he is through being president, most of the young guys in baseball will probably be fighting in some Middle Eastern country.

First of all, GW would make a terrible commish!!!
every business he has worked with has gone to crap!!!
he basically ran the Texas rangers into the ground!!
who could be the next commissioner of baseball?
look for baseball to get someone who has been around the block. maybe someone with a legal backround to fend of any more steroid questions! possible candidates include: the current pres. ans CEO Bob DuPuy or maybe one of their five VPs. also not out of the question is a former owner or GM, but way in left field is Rudy Guiliani if he loses the Rep. Nom.
But the The ideal candidate would be a truly independent fan, someone who loves the game for the game - someone from outside baseball’s power structure - belonging to neither ownership nor player’s interests, but someone with a vision for baseball, its betterment and its future.

No, Dubya would not do well.

- He would try and stop Drugs of Mass destruction in baseball and never find them

- At the All Star break, he would take the last place team of the AL East and send them to the World Series, claiming "Mission Accomplished"

- He would blame all of the ills of baseball on the terrorists

- He would have several PR blunders, refering to the Montreal Expos, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Milwaukee Braves

- Haliburton would get a $14 billion contract to rebuild all of the baseball stadiums.

I think that Bush is one of the worst if not the worst president we have ever had. I don't think he would make a good commissioner.

No. Bush would make a good elevator operator. I think Condeleeza Rice would be better. She already said she would like that job. She is much more intelligent and understands the game.

With the way he's been a president, what in god's name makes you think he could be a comissioner? The man is a blithering idiot.

He'd probably run the league right into the ground like he's running his war on terror.
