You could take on the political ramifications if this had happened.
Two completely different executive, legislative and judicial governments.
It would be a lot like traveling to a different country - passports? vaccinations? etc...
Good luck with your paper.

OK, what if?
A victory for the South would have meant that the North gave up on bring the south back into the fold.
The problems with the south arose during the war, the inability to control rampant inflation the reckless printing of currency the enormous foreign debt to Europe, the inability of the confederate states to find agreement upon almost anything. The same states rights verses central government would have subdivided the confederacy. Look at West Virginia, West Virginia succeeded from Virginia over the slavery issue. Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri were not to hot on succession only after Ft.. Sumter did they get on board.
Had the confederacy gained Independence from the Union, it would have again sub divided based upon internal differences, chances are some might have tried to from a strong alliance with an European country which would have cause problems with the US.
I see no future for the Confederacy what ever.

I am a history prof...........there would not have been advances in technology, civil rights, women's rights, conservatism would have ruled........the southerners at the time were too hot headed to have handled any major task, such as industry, textile, imports, exports, tarrifs, any major advances you read in reconstruction........the south lacked the level headed knowledge and direction to lead the country forward. remember they wanted to keep slavery and thought that all the advances the north was making didn't concern them. they held their ground, yes.......but in the case of "if the south would have won" go to research on reconstruction and contradict all that the North did and compare to what the South did............this is an easy question if you really study the reconstruction era............would Lincoln have been a target? think of how long it takes now days for the South to conform to gay rights, changes in government, basically everything that is around you came from to advances in the North........industrialism, capitalism, urbanization, what would all that have come to with a southerner in office in 1765 through Reconstruction....would there have been reconstruction? would the south have expanded slavery to the entire country........and in the territories.........all that you have learned and reseached can be contradicted with a southern point of view..........need any help email me.......I give you sources, etc...............good luck this should be a great starting point for your research paper

(Slavery would have been abolished anyway, probably.) I doubt that the South would have lasted long. It would have been so dependent on foreign countries for manufactured goods that it would either fall apart or rejoin the Union. Even if it didn't, though, the North and South might be close allies, almost like one country. One can never know, though.

Interesting question. I think that under a Confederate Govt, the US would have still abolished slavery towards the end of the 19th C. I think the US would have been much closer to the Latin American countries, in terms of culture, values and religion, than it is today. The US would be more conservative with a more pronounced class difference.

It wouldn't finally have made much difference. Slavery was on its way out in any case and would have been dead within a couple of decades. The million people who died because of that war would long have died despite it.
I do think that the Confederation and the Federal States would have soon reunited, but that is pure speculation.

Sweet tea (iced, not hot) would be the beverage of choice, without a doubt.
