I don't get the prompt message either, but it's easy enough to get around. If you have iTunes on your computer, put the CD in and open iTunes, and the CD should appear on the left side of the player under 'Devices'.

If you click on that, all the songs on the CD should appear - either click 'Import CD' on the bottom right-hand corner, or you can highlight them all (or just the ones you want using Ctrl+click), right-click, and hit 'Convert Selection to AAC' and they should download into your iTunes library. Then all you should have to do is plug your iPod in with the cable that should've been provided, and it'll sync it for you.

Hey, just got an iPod nano too- was a present for my birthday! Am assuming you have iTunes? Make sure it's up to date and current with your iPod, cos had to upload the new one before mine would work, and then you should just be able to plop the CD into the drive and it should load up... Maybe give it a while to register, whirring noises usually bode well.
If you haven't got iTunes you can download it free from the apple website.

Did you download the ipod software? I was confused about adding music to my ipod at first, but then I realized I needed the ipod software.

Are you putting in the CD and then pressing the 'Import CD' button on the bottom right corner of the iTunes window?
