This is what happened. Each company had a different mobile network code. Then, they made a third mobile network code (about 1.5 years ago) and they've been integrating the networks slowly across the united states. If you were never integrated (some of the phones won't update, if you don't have a new SIM card), you would be using an old network. Let's say here I am at home and I using an old AT&T signal, I try to handoff to an old Cingular signal, my call would have dropped. If I use a new SIM card, my phone is supposed to handoff between networks. I would suggest talking to Cingular about a new SIM card (it should be free). On the new SIM card, it should have the number 410 near the beginning middle. If your SIM card doesn't have that number, go get a new one!

If you live in a more rural area of the country you will get more dropped calls than in the city. But I guess that's true of any service. My boyfriend has Cingular and he has had problems with customer service and wants to change providers. However, as far as I know Cingular is still the only provider that offers rollover minutes which is the best idea in cell phone history to date, IMO.

Your bad service has nothing to do with the merger. The merger is between Bell South and At&t, BellSouth is the parent company of Cingular it has nothing to do with wireless service. The original MaBell is reconnecting. These are just parent companys it has nothing to do with wireless service. Cingular bought At&t Wireless 3 years ago that was a differant company that merger has been complete for years. I work for Cingular if you are having problems with your phone please go into a store and explain your problem, they will be able to help you perhaps you need a new sim card or a warrenty exchange.

Yes! And I never connected it with the merger until now! I have a worse connection in some places that were fine before! I thought it was my phone. Man.

i dont think it's in any way connected to the merger though...
