I can't think of any off the top of my head but I can tell you, whenever I hear some spotty girl or boyband do a cover of one my favourite songs I find myself saying "it's not as good as the original". That is when you know you are getting old!. The problem is, I can remember my parents saying the same when I used to bop around to the latest tune when I was a teenager - it's like fashion, it's all been done before, just comes around in a slightly different format - what really annoys me is when the imposters try and make out it was their original idea!

Texas - Say what you want
absolutely murdered by the Wu Tang Clan the same year.
The Police - Roxanne
The Police - Every breath you take
famously killed by P.Diddy, and popular at the time too - so I still cannot appreciate the original songs for what they once were.
Fugees - Ready or Not
to give an example of sampling that didn't kill an original song: I still enjoy Enya's Boadicea - i.e. the humming bombastical tune on the background. Cool.

i used to like candle in the wind til it became associated with the princess di thing. Pretty sure there was a charity song in England where someone covered "live and let die" or "knockin on heavens door" or something that guns and roses had done. It was for a good cause but it was awful

"How Sweet it Is to be Loved by You" - Marvin Gaye. Then along came James "It's like jelly, baby" Taylor, who bled the life out of it.
There's a lot of awful Motown covers; "Stop in the Name of Love" the Hollies, "You Can't Hurry Love" - Phil Collins, "You Keep Me Hanging On" - Vanilla Fudge (why do guys insist on covering the Supremes?), "This Old Heart of Mine" - Ronald Isley and Rod Stewart (who ought to have known better! This almost negates his ferocious cover of the Tempts "I Know I'm Losing You"); but JT takes the cake.

ah I know what you're saying.I'm a big Eric Clapton fan.And I like Guns n Roses too. They don't hold a candle to Eric when it comes to Knockin on Heaven's door.Allot of songs like this out today. They need to write their own music and leave the old songs alone. They were big hits and no one can make them sound better. What's you're song that was murdered?
