Of course, if you make your poem a nonsense poem, it's so much easier. Make up a word. I was writing a poem about Santa's workshop where the elves were hard at WORK. with a deadline zooming up on me, I couldn't think of anything I liked to go with it, so I created a character, Santa's senior elf, Flerrk.

Of course, you can go mad with nonsense poems. Another of mine is called Quarkleloomay which has a resident called Foufouphlet who had a strange creature - the poddlepoo - come to visit for a while. Only Foufouphlet was created to rhyme with another word (forget) but you can have some real fun with them.

I get my rhymes with a very easy technique, I have my 'sound', in this case 'evven' and then go through the alphabet, sticking each letter on the front, not forgetting comboes like 'ch', sh', st, etc.

Hope this quick lesson in writing poetry helps.

Most of these given you are not true rhymes as they do not provide a short i sound but what is called a schwa: the characteristic unstressed vowel sound (found at the beginning and end of such disparate words as computer and banana), which is the commonest sound in English.
