Right now, we spend 710 billion dollars on defense; 1.4 Trillion on social security, HUD, and health and human services; and under .67% of the federal budget on NASA, or, some meazly 17 billion dollars. Every great civilization is remembered by its achievements in science, yet, NASA remains grossly underfunded, what say you?

I guess our government and the people do not care about space exploration. It's a shame.

Please find where in the U.S. Constitution it gives congressional authority to fund a space program, a housing program, a retirement program or a health program?
The fact is, most of the things our 'government' funds are not authorized by any of the founding documents - which is the biggest reason China is our biggest creditor. China doesn't have an HUD, a NASA or an F.I.C.A.

NASA said they needed 1 Billion dollars to upgrade their asteroid detection system. With all the money spent since the war started, surely we could find a measly 1 Billion dollars to detect the thing that could kill ALL OF US!

If NASA doesn't have money to find planet-killers, then what's the use of us throwing money elsewhere? It would all be lost anyway. NASA needs funding. I'd also like additional funding to speed up the new spaceship & moon base.

Well, the main reason why we conduct space exploration is for defense purposes, so that's an interesting question.
