They only come out at night to avoid predators,but how do they know when it is dark as there is no light in their tunnels?

The temperature of the soil cools down at night, but is not correct that they come out at night to avoid predators.
When males are looking for females to have a bit of nooky with, lots of male moles can be seen above ground and in the open.

I think they sense the difference of temperature between the night time and the day time.
