okay, I will tell you.....they used film...ya know? from the movie film! Isn't that interesting?
I found that answer either from a show on the movie or from the Anniversary book on it...check in a bookstore or used bookstore to see if they have the anniversary book on The Wonderful World of the Wizard of Oz...or something like that!

also, Margaret had a metal chin!
and her green makeup used to run into her tea cup(when she would sit with Judy during breaks.)..and have tea, the studio lights were so hot, that they would melt her make-up!

The one disappearing act in Munchkinland was filmed only once...her hair caught on fire...and she was in the hospital for about 6 weeks! they only did that scene once!

They used silk stockings for the tornado....you'll learn more...if you find this book!

Green paint.

Look at the link I left below. You can see her nails are extended and painted green like her skin color.

Margaret Hamilton wore press-on green fingernails while playing the role of the witch. Sometimes if she grabbed a prop too quickly or hard, the nails would come off.
