These laws are local in nature and the only ones I am familiar with occur in parts of California. In areas where the incidents of wildfires is high, or potentially high, there are sometimes regulations governing the proximity of trees and underbrush to residential dwellings. It is thought that keeping a combustible free area around a house will help prevent it from catching fire.

If you suspect that you live in one of these areas, contact your county building/zoning office for a copy of the regulations.

only knew about the height but after all the trouble with these trees roots I'm not surprised there is a law against them

you might just want to say where you live since most of the world has no such law.
