The same reason they can't create a baby that doesn't turn into a teenager.

I remember seeing photos in the paper of a really cute alsation puppy that stayed puppy-sized all it's life due to an illness. The trouble is, that life wasn't as long as a normal dog due to the illness.

Any dog which stayed a puppy would never be able to reproduce! Basic biology here . . .
To the person who said about pomeranians, they are not to be seen as fashion accessories. I have one and I love her dearly, but they were not made to be carried around as Nicole Richie and co. seem to have made fashionable. Mine hated being picked up at all until her stroke.

Actually some of the features of many existing dog breeds, such are the drop ear (beagle, lab) ARE retained puppy features.

You really want something that spends its life teething, chewing the furniture, whining at night and peeing on the carpet??? Puppies are cute and sweet but I don't know if they'd be half as loveable if we didn't know they'd grow out of some of their habits!

That's the way nature works!
And I think scientists would be doing more than they should if they start doing such things. We are talking about living creatures, not objects. Don't give them ideas!

they have. it's called an afghan hound.
they never ever EVER grow up. they have selective hearing (as if they had never been called a name before), house training is impossible, they run thru poo, they pinch stuff then sick it up. Charming little monsters

actaully that is why they have created smaller breeds, to make them look like puppies and better fit to smaller areas.
pomeranians
pugs
yorkies
the list goes on...........

Yes that would be great, but I would add that it would have to be non moulting and non pooing !! Then perhaps my hubby would let my son have one at last.
