my daughter has been sticking up for kids her whole life and she doesn't care the size of the competitor nor the gender. Kids make fun of her all the time cuz she is MMH, with reactive attachment disorder, PTSD, fetal alcohol effects, etc., and she can't stand to see it happen to someone else.
And hell yeah I'm proud. Like, none of this is her fault. She was born in a chemical dependency treatment center, then in and out of shelters and foster home placements till we got her at age 3. She's a gem!
But I do have to tell her not to hit. She took self defense with me and she could put a whupping on those aholes!

Nah. I've been proud of my kids for stuff I shouldn't have been before too. I used to attend a Mommy's playgroup- where we all would get together with the kids and the moms would gossip about whichever mother wasn't there. I hated doing it, but it gave my kids a chance to play with other kids. One day we were all at the park and a gay couple was there holding hands and sitting on a park bench and one of the mothers was like "Lets go to the other park.." And my daughter absolutely refused to leave and then asked the gay guys to come play. Kids are so sweet and innocent because they don't understand what prejudice is- Everyone is just a friend to them and I was really proud of her for not being influenced by the crazy old bag and her brats.

i would be proud of my son!! my son is only 17 months old, but his nephew is 2 1/2 and comes over to play every now and then, and is really mean, and always takes the toys and pushes my son down. First my son would always cry and just run to me, but a month ago when it happened, my son got up and pushed him back which made my nephew fall for once and took the toy back. I was sooo proud!!! Our sons rule! ♥

Sweetie, I would feel the exact same way. :) My daughter is only 15 months old, but I worry all the time how she'll react to other kids as she gets older. I hope to teach her that it's OK to stand up for herself and not be pressured and bullied all the time by other kids.

Sounds like a little man of justice. It is not wrong. You've taught him to protect his own and that is what a real man, or a real friend always does. Pat him on the back for me. Then, you don't have to take credit. LOL

I understand. You are proud of him for defending his friend, not necessarily for the actual fight. It's OK to know your son has ethics and a deep sence of commitment to his friend.

Defending your friends is a good thing, but in the world we live in fighting can be a bad thing. Let him know how you feel and why It will form a lasting bond !

On the inside, i think that you def have that right as a mother! But dont let him know that will provoke him a little more! You did do the right thing by giving him the "no fighting" speach! (but you can do the victory dance inside) ;)
