First Tesco internet security is not one of the better ones. Your experience with AVG is typical. It just flat out misses a lot of things and then won't clean them.

Suggestion would be to go to www.avast.com and download the free home version. Let it run a boot time scan after you install it. Make sure you get rid of the other two. You can't run multiple antivirus programs at the same time.

It is found in the recycle bin only, I would be surprised if an anti-virus program deleted it to there. It would either be put into a quanranteen location or erased altogether. I'm assuming you weren't shown a list of infected files at some time and deleted it yourself.

I don't know which anti-virus engine Tesco's is based on, I just tried to find out for you but I'm afraid I didn't come up with an answer.

This is what I would do in your situation, part of this is strictly speaking unnecessary because something did find that infected file and it somehow got into your recycle bin. But for my own peace of mind I would ensure that you are clean.

First I would make certain that my machine is clean, Symantec, McAfee both have an online scan that you can use for free, if I remember correctly you have to create a sign in, but the scan is still free (or select one of the big name anti-virus online scans given in other posts here). The scan can take a long time, but is worth it.

Once the scan tells me my machine is clean I would ensure that my recovery information is clean. You do this by turning off System Restore, restart the computer, then enable system restore. That starts the restore information afresh from your now clean machine.

Next the anti-virus itself. The fact that Tesco anti-virus found yours in the recycle bin, suggests that as an anti-virus it is doing a decent job. How good it is I can't guess because I don't know the software they use. So, use the online scan as a guide, if it found something on your machine then assume the Tesco one is not good enough and replace it with a better anti-virus. If the only scan does not reveal a virus or risk, then you can assume the Tesco one is good enough for the job.

Hi.
You could try searching your E\recycled folder to see if the suspect file is still there, and if it is, you can manually delete it if you think it's a virus. (When searching, ask to include hidden files and folders in your search to make sure it's found.) It's possible that your Tesco program did take action and either quarantine or delete the file, or it's possible that the AVG program just didn't find it.
It's generally not a good idea to have more than one anti-virus program installed on your computer at the same time, as this can cause program conflicts and errors.

Which AVG did you download? The AntiVirus? If so then you will need to completely turn off or remove the other program. You can use one AntiVirus only on your computer.

AVG also has a AntiSpyware program. It is the old ewido and they still call it ewido. This is the best general Trojan detector and remover available. Go here and you can download a free full function 30 day trial version or you can do an Online scan.

I received good advice from a computer expert and will share it with you. Firstly, chuck AVG. Uninstall it. Install ACTIVEVIRUSSHIELD. www.activevirusshield.com
It is free and excellent.
You then start your computer in safe mode and do a full scan. It will take some time but worth it.
That is number one.
Number 2 you install and run both ADAWARE SE PERSONAL and SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY. Get yourself another firewall, i.e. COMODO and another browser i.e. OPERA or MOZILLA.
For now you can go with what BOB M says. Very good advice!! I received the above advice from a person who has been working with computers for 10 years - tested all the programs for anti-virus, browsers, spyware etc. and he knows what he is talking about.

It sounds dodgy to me- like tescos are trying to get you to buy their services. Like they have lied to you to get you to buy their software.
Although anti V services are essential for computers which use the net, I dont think this tactic (if it was a tactic) is the way to go, and the freedom to choose any antiV software should have been more evident rather than tescos hard-sell.

I think to resolve it you should call tescos, find out what they have to say, and if you get no where with it, then start calling bbc watch dog or "which" and let tescos know you are doing this as you have not had a satifactory result from them. Then see what happens.

scan with your avg in safe mode http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

(1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans in safe mode http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

(2) Do an online virus scan to check if you still have viruses on your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .

If you do not have firefox get it now and use it instead of internet explorer so you dont get any more spyware http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.com/

well, a trojan is not a virus. AVG scans for viruses not malware such as a trojan. get a copy of spybot or asquared. they are both free and will scan for malwareand remove it.
