Your brain remembers everything that happens during the day. Not just the important stuff, but *everything*. Every word you spoke, every thing you heard, every mouthful of food you ate, every face you saw, *everything*.
Imagine how clogged up your brain would be if all this information wasn't organised in some way, at least.
So, when you sleep, it goes to work. It sorts out what it wants to keep, what can be filed away in the bottom drawer, and so on. If you wake up while this is going on, you perceive it as a dream.
The dream can sometimes be a window into your innermost thoughts, because the brain works on the principle of association of ideas.
But it needs a certain amount of skill to interpret - just because there's (say) a dog in the dream, it doesn't *mean* a dog; you may have been stroking a dog once when something else happened to you. See how hard it is?
Bottom line: yes, they do have meaning, but not always in the way you might think.

Sigmund Freud. Ha. The more I have read of him, the less I like. He was a weird little man. And he thinks I have problems????
Okay, now that I vented on that subject...dreams are your minds way of dealing with and dumping the waste that accumulates from our emotions and mental processes. The same way that defication removes the waste products in the body.
So from the emotional aspect, you don't feel you can trust your friends or are afraid that they won't be trustworthy. And by stabbing them in the back, you are dealing with your frustration from the lack of trust.
Or maybe it is just weird dreams, like a swamp monster chasing you to eat your toes and it has no real meaning.

Dreams can be very helpful to you if you would be in good relation with them, I mean with yourself. Stabbing a friend may mean you'd like to keep away from some characteristics defined by that friend to you. I hope this is helping.

Dreams are a subconscious reflection of emotions. Generally its not so much personal as emotional. The fact that its your friends is general irrelevant. Its the emotional feelings that you project on them, that they are representative of. The fact that you are being stabbed in the back, represents exactly what you think it would. Betrayal, Distrust, those sorts of issues that you are struggling with inside.

Sazzy_b is to a certain extent correct. Some people belive that dreams mean things. But others believe that dreams are random firings of the brain while you are asleep. You are in charge of your own fate. Don't let dreams rule your life.

are u stabbing your friends in the back with a knife? because a knife can represent a penis. therefore, u are dreaming of anal sex. at least this is what the famous psychologist Sigmund Freud would say....
