it seems to me you get anxious when you feel alone. the dark is what you make of it and your imagination transforms it into something haunting. the breathing and laughing that your mind imagines are most likely meant to make you feel small and vulnerable, such as a child would be. that would suggest that maybe you have some childhood trauma you did not explore or dealt with yet and your subconscious is trying to give you a hint about it.
i guess that if you try to put the light off and be alone in the middle of the room and have a dialog with yourself you might find some interesting answers to your problem. try to talk to yourself when the laughing comes, ask yourself why you are afraid. see the child in you and let your mature self protect it and encourage it. try to imagine yourself talking to a scared child trying to comfort it only that in this case the child is yourself. in other words confront the problem and have yourself support yourself through the tough part. as soon as you realize you can trust yourself to be there when the dark comes you will have no problems in dealing with this anxiety.
let me know how it goes or if anything is unclear! hope it helps ;)

Sounds extra like a time-honored tension then a particular ingredient - you're actually not afraid of the darkish however the unknown issues at middle of the night, fact is you would be in basic terms as afraid of ghosts zombies, killers and kidnappers land dinosaurs on a sunny day in the event that they have been real, the darkish triggers a cue you concepts to start being irrationally afraid. i might assume some undemanding paintings with a qualified therapist will fix that precise up.

First I have to ask, How often are you in the dark?
If you walk home in the dark, find a shorter route home or somewhere that's well lit.
Use a flashlight, because normally if you shine light on it and see that it's nothing it makes you feel better.
Watch TV, something like a funny show or something to get your mind off your fears.
Or you could do like I do, and have a TV in your room with your remote beside you, so no matter what your room is always lit up, if you can sleep that way?.

Your imagination can seem very real when you fear something, but it could be a hallucination. You don't have to have a mental illness to have a hallucination. I once heard breathing after sleep deprivation. That's what they call hpynogogic phenomenon. It's when you are between wakefulness and sleep. I'm not saying that's what you are experiencing. They can be of sound, touch, smell etc. Listen to a portable cd player with volume low. Can you interrupt it by telling yourself it's not real? Does it only happen at home? If it doesn't only happen at home that's evidnece that it's your mind. If so, see if you can get someone to be there with you until you find a solution.

If you are not scitzophrenic, and the laughing and breathing is real, I suggest getting rid of anything spiritistic in your home. I have heard very weird and creepy stories about people with ouiga (sp?) boards in their home. Oh and do what everyone else is saying and get a night light. But try to address that laughing and breathing problem. That's not good.

I dont think you really hear the voices and laughter though...not that I think your lieing either...I just think that you have trained your mind to think that just like I have kinda trained my mind to vision things in my room...I know it sounds pysico but it isnt...try turnig on the radio when you get ready to go to bed with a night light...maybe it will help...sorry Im not much help, just know your not alone...God Bless!

sounds like u are abit paranoid i get like that too if im alone, the best thing to do is to put a cd on or watch a dvd or something and keep yourself occupied if you are at home alone. if you sit in silence you will just end up freaking out about every little sound and end up calling the cops at 3 in the morning, oh and dont answer the phone if it rings early in the morning. i was home by myself three things happed 1; lights went out! 2: heard 'walking' sounds inside the roof and three.. got a phone call at 3am no one spoke just heard deep breathing..best to just keep busy!!!

Yeah I used to have this problem. What you do is leave a light on and pray right before bed. Sleep with an animal in the room or close by you.
good luck

Maybe you have created a link with the dark to a fear. It could be a schema( your brain works using these). It's nothing to worry about unless it hinders you in some way. if in doubt seek medical help

I suggest having your home blessed in case it is haunted. Also, just leave the light on or watch TV. If that doesn't work, get a roommate or see a dr.
