Even though I've moved over to Europe, I still keep Ronald Reagan stamps in my wallet. I miss those days when he was President, and no matter where you travelled around the world people respected the U.S. It was a happier time, and when Reagan was in the White House, you could feel hope for the future in the air, even if you didn't agree with all his policies.
I remember taking a trip to the small Bolivian town of Cochabamba, and a young boy across the street, noticing I must be American, flashed a big smile at me and said, "Ronald Reagan #1"
Anyone else want to share their thoughts?

David R: your comment exemplifies Liberal simplistic thinking. Did it ever occur to you there were very good reasons to oppose MLK day? First was his legendary abuse of women. The FBI wrote of King: “orgiastic and adulterous escapades, some of which indicated that King could be bestial in his sexual abuse of women”
Also, besides Christmas and Washington's birthday (which has now been demoted to "Presidents Day", there is NO FEDERAL HOLIDAY that celebrates one individual. Just because MLK was black, you think he should be given some special consideration? Isn't that racist?????
As for South Africa, look at the pitiful state it is in. It used to be prosperous, stable, and safe. Now it is in deplorable condition. Rather than blindly turn the country over to the ANC, they should have shared power with the previous government, and simply abolished apartheid.

I agree, few Presidents or Americans had a love of America that Ronald Reagan had. He was unashamed to state that fact or be strong in his belief that our way of life was a model for the world. Those who criticized him for being anti-communist have been proven wrong, as his actions lead to the demise of the USSR. When he said, "Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" while in Berlin echo in the memories of us all as a warning that America would not stop until it happened.
Many who remember those dark days of Soviet era domination and who lived through it say that it was President Reagan who gave them hope. Most of them have not forgotten.

Reagan had our support. That's why the world loved him. If we said bad things about Reagan why wouldn't everybody else? The same is applicable today.

Ronald Reagan brought Pride and Patriotism back and I LOVED that!
Liberals tell us to be ashamed we are Americans (Dixie Chicks, etc) BUT Reagan told us to hold our head high and be PROUD that you are from the United States of America - the greatest and most generous and caring country in the world!

I was born right after the reagan administration, but I hear what you're saying. It's a disgrace that Bush likens himself to Reagan. He will never be Ronald Reagan. Not in a million years.

Reagan changed the political rhetoric of the nation. After the assassination attempt he survived, he was not often involved in affairs of the state, more a figurehead statesman.
