Depends on your definition of "impressive". For me, Star Wars left a mark on me when I first saw it in 1977 when I was 6 yrs old. Most recently, I was definitely impressed by the works of Tarantino (most notably Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill), Robert Rodriguez (Sin City), and the Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix). But, I also feel most inspired by the first and last Rocky films. The original cause it shows what a nobody can do, and the last because it shows you are never too old to do anything, as long as you put in the work.

Other filmmakers of note: Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys, Monty Python), Woody Allen (hit or miss, but then, who isn't?), Steven Speilberg (Schindler's List has to be one of the greatest and most important films ever made), James Cameron, and Mel Brooks.

So, it all depends on your mood. So many great films and filmmakers over the past 100 years, where to start?

Old films Kind Hearts and Coronets and the original 39 Steps both made a big impression. Latterly The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, V for Vendetta and, of course, Star Wars!
Whats yours?

Not sure what you mean by impressive. The CGI in Jurassic Park was amazing for it's day, but I'd vote for Apollo 13 - the weightless scenes were absolutely spot on (I'm an astronomy nerd and look out for these things!) and I was wondering how they did it, then I discovered they really were weightless - the sets were built into an aircraft which went into parabolic flight, creating a few minutes of zero-gee at a time. That's got to be impressive!

Hmmm I don't know where to start. Do you mean story/plot wise or technologically superior/challenging?
Any way I got to say rocky balboa was awesome, it was very emotional I know I’m a guy, but we too do feel emoticon.
The ghost in the darkness - another great movie. I think all time best movies include the Gooiness, Indiana Jones series and Back to the future.

I suppose it depends on your interpretation of impressive, most recently I would say Apocolypto, stunning with a story line to really make you sit up,

Schindlers List, The Green Mile, Philadelphia, would all be close seconds for storyline...

For me it's An American Werewolf in London, the transformation scene from man to werewolf has never been bettered or equalled for that matter and it's over 20 years ago!!
