I would check with your physician as you may have an underlying problem which can include an actual sleep disorder such as sleep apnea, where one stops breathing in his or her sleep. It can cause sleepiness during the day and irregular sleep patterns in general.

I happen to take seroquel, classified as an antipsychotic, at nite due to the ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) antidepressant, prozac, that I must take due to anxiety, ocd and depression giving me insomnia.

I also do have sleep apnea as I had a sleep study done at an overnite lab. I have a cpap (continuous positive airway pressure) machine though I have to get used to it. People do say that it really improves their quality of life. So please do check with your dr to try to find out the root cause whether it's stress and anxiety or something else. Take good care

Considering that Ambien is a prescription drug, you should try Temazepam 30mg
This is what they give the fighter pilots that are on missions, they call them "no go" pills ("go" pills are dextroamphetamine)
I've been taking these for about 3 months now and have been sleeping very well.

Get a prescription of vicadin. It will help you sleep.

Or if you can find tryptophane. It used to be sold in stores until the FDA and their ineptnesss decided to remove it. You don't see them removing anything that might make money for powerful stockholders.

I use Lunesta, and it works like a charm. You might try taking one of the 3mg tabs before bed.
