I know that footless tights and leggings are in at the moment. But I'm not sure what the difference between the two are (besides the footless part).

What are you suppose to wear with them (besides under dresses/skirts) and are they suppose to be opaque (i.e. works kind of like alternatives to pants) or slightly sheer (i.e. like stockings)?
Also what materials do they come in and how do you know which length to get to go with different types of outifts?

footless tights are more sheer, and well panty-hosey
leggings are a fabric like cotton and are footless also, these provide more warmth and coverage

you can wear them opaquely or slightly sheer, but never completely sheer,

capri length is for mini skirts/dresses

ankle length is for shorter dresses

they size by how much you weigh, just look at the back

Leggings are thicker and you generally cant see thru them. Footless tights are more sheer, like a thicker pantyhose.

Mid-calf I would wear leggings with denim mini-skirts and a cute top. Add in some cute stillettos to play up a modern 80s vibe.

Ankle length I would wear leggings OR footless tights with a baby doll dress (Old Navy has some cute ones for under $30...FYI-they run a size big) and some ballet flats.

With either you can take part in many of the trends right now. Flats, metallic, floral, mod, brights, etc. I would stick to solids although you can get them in lace and some different tonal patterns just like you can get regular tights. You can get them at all different price points but getting a solid black or brown lets the cheapest pair look just as good as the designer pair.

Footless tights are usually heavy and opaque, where leggins could be anything. The thin ones are worn like stockings, and the heavier opaques are worn like pants. They can also be worn as sportswear under very short skirts.

I am not a big fan, I prefer real stockings.

the tights are tight and the leggins from what i know are the scrunchy sock like things that you wear over your pant legs like leg warmers. I could be totally wrong but thats how it is in california. The tights you could wear under your skirt or dress or anything. The best thing to always wear is what ever you damn well feel like wearing and what you feel comfortable wearing. Dont be a follower be a leader and let people follow you. If people dont like what you are wearing then tell them that they are more than welcome to buy your clothes for you. If the style is wearing a big straw hat with a big sunflower in it are you going to wear one? I know I wouldnt. Just like the style of the worn out looking jeans. That was stupid. I cant see spending up to 100 dlls on worn out looking jeans especially when I throw them out when they look like that. Be you and wear what you want .

leggings can be worn without a skirt and are much thicker
- footless tights are the same as normall tights, but without a skirt the feet, plus many girls wouldn't just walk out in them without
