I have collected the data for a 2x2 box on a 10x10 grid. I know the difference is 10 but I can't seem to get my head round the nth term as there is a 2nd line of difference 2? I don't want anyone to do it for me just explain in a dummy method coz its driving me mad. thanks

hi the difference isn't 10 its -10(if u hav the same q as me )e.g12 times 23 (times diagonaly)then13times22 then u take them away 276-286=-10 then u give a letter for each number eg 12=a 13=b 22=c 23=d so then u know a times d takeaway b times c is =-10 so the formula would b ad-bc=-10 thats how far ive got hope ive helped is quite hard ill help u more if i find more ok and if u can can u help me bye

rite this is 10 x 10 grid

Rite this how far im going, eg get 2x2 14, 15, 24, 25

14 x 25 = 350
15 x 24 = 360
The difference is 10

you take 350 - 360 = 10

Carry on with the pattern and you will find the differnet you get is a 10, do 3x3, 4x4, you will notice that it goes up in 10.

If you say on your 10 x 10 grid that your 2x2 box contains the numbers
14 15
24 25.
the diagonal difference (d) is (15 x 24) - (14 x 25)

this can be put into the nth term by replacing the 14 with n
n n+1
n+10 n+11
replace these into the equation to find d
d = (n+1)(n+10) - n(n+11)

expand out the brackets and go from there. once you have the equation, make sure you replace that with a single number to prove the point!!!!!

follow a similar path for the 3x3 box and you should get there!!!!
