We are removing the linoleum in our kitchen to install bamboo floors. It came up fairly easy (with just pulling). However, the linoleum backing and glue did stay behind. It appears to be damp and the glue and backing come off pretty easy with a razor blade. It did a moisture test and it came back positive with moisture but only looked like it was at the top of the concrete. Can linoleum hold moisture and if we let it dry out, will we still have a problem later on? I can't figure out if the moisture is coming from the slab or somewhere else (maybe due to mopping). Thanks!!!

The moisture is probably coming from the concrete. You may be able to seal the concrete before laying the bamboo floor. I am sure the instructions for the new flooring will include laying a moisture barrier such as roofing felt (15 or 30 pound) down before installing. This is typical with any wood flooring.

Yes, the lino can trap the moisture, mopping wouldn't affect it unless you had a slice in the vinyl somewhere. If the ice maker, or dishwasher is leaking it could get under the vinyl at the base. You can let the concrete air dry and then check for moisture, you don't want to install the bamboo floors until you make sure the moisture will ruin the bamboo. Also bamboo is acutally a soft wood that scratches and dents fairly easily.

Yes concrete always collects moisture. Heat will draw moisture through the concrete. Is there foam board under the concrete? It needs to have a moisture barrier.

Yes, linoleum can hold moisture but it mostly depends on wat kind u have some linoleum backing is porus and water can be trapped especially if i was wet befor glued down then the water could have sealed in. but linoleum is coverd with a water proof top so mopping would not have got the under side wet unless it was put in wrong..............and im not sure if u can dry it out or not.........ive always heard u throw it out but check me on that.

Eventually, water does seep through concrete. It also seeps up so it may coming up from under the concrete slab.

if you have a high humidity & cool slab this could be it... if you have a high water table it could be pushing through your slab ( rare - if you yard grading falls toward the house, or you live in a low area, gid a hole out side next to this room & see if it fills with water hydrostatic pressure ) sealing is a good idea, dehumidifier may be the trick, especially cold climate!
