and if a starter goes bad can it make anything else go wrong. my dad is a mechanic and he doesnt wanna here what i have to ask cuz he works on cars all day for 20 years haha. but im geting a 96 camaro for 100 great cond.

Call Auto Zone or somewhere and ask them how much. Call a few places the prices may vary, but the warranty may also vary. There are rebuilds and new as well. If you father is a mechanic he probably has a few places he deals with regularly. If you go in person to them and tell them who your dad is he probably gets a better price than Joe Shmoe off the street.
Depending on what part of the starter is bad it can cause problems. If its the bendix or gear it can wreck the flywheel and that requires removal of the transmission or engine one of the two to replace. If it is electrical it is not very likely but can cause problems with wiring or other electrical parts.

If you were me I'd head to Advance Auto and pick up an AC Delco re-manufactured starter. Their starters have the best warranty and more new parts are installed than any other brand.
