best absorbed and least expensive are generic equivalent calcium antacid tables- They must be chewed thoroughly and followed with a glass of water for maximum benefit. Two tablets twice a day offers as much calcium as your body can absorb. Tums tablets are the same thing, but the generic equivalents (like Equate brand calcium antacid tables at Walmart) are the same.

Everybody has favorites. and you will usually find people going through several brands until they find one that is easy on their bodies.
Some will give you a tummy ache, headache or constipation.
Start with the calcium citrates. Try to avoid the calcium carbonates.
Calcium In food form is my favorite.

You can try over the counter caltrate. there is also a caltrate that has vitamin D supplement in it, and a chewable caltrate that is handy for when you have no water to swallow the pill with. You are supposed to take it with food I think. If you are seriously concerned about bone loss then drink more milk, and get a bone loss test from your physician. Older people who are already lost bone mass can get a prescription for one of several that supposedly actually replace loss bone mass but I don't know if they reaaly do. If you have a family history then let your physician know.

You need to find a supplement that contains Vitamin D, Magnesium, and calcium.
You can take all of the calcium you want; but if your body is lacking in vitamin D, and magnesium; you body will not be able to absorb the calcium.

I use Citracal 630mg,with vit d3 400iu, two caplets daily and I am happy with results.Bone density is stabilized since heart tx.six years ago.
Can use any brand calcium citrate with same values, although I fund generally generic brands tend to be larger tablets and harder to swallow.
