My baby was born at 37 1/2 weeks weighing only 3.6 pounds, she currently weighs 10.5 punds at 4 mos. The doctor feels she should weigh at least 15 ponds. How can that be when she started so small?

I would definitely get a second opinion. Typically they would like babies to double their birth weight at 6 months...now since your baby was pretty tiny, I would still think 10 lbs is pretty good. My little girl was born at 38 weeks weighing 7lbs, and weighed only 12lbs at her 4 month check up and 14 lbs at her 6 month check up and she's just fine, so I think for your doctor to want 15lbs at 4 months is a ridiculous goal. Call around and find another doctor to check it out.

My baby (son) was born @ 36 weeks and was 4lbs. 8oz. and is about 13 lbs, and is now 4 months old. See you have to think of it this way girls are usually lighter and that is a progress for her and as long as she doesn't lose weight, you shouldn't worry. I don't and my baby is a preemie and other babies his age are way bigger.

I don't think there's any set weight, but I've always heard that a baby should double their birth weight by 4mths. If you and/or her father are small, she just may be, too.
