I've been and i loved it.
I love North africa though. Your travel company will likely tell you to not go off adventuring but bugger them. Get the train up to Tunis, the medina there is a world heritage site and absolutly fantastic. Oh try to head off to sidi bou said too, google it for some great pictures.
To get there jump in a taxi and say mahatta el tran beer bour regba minfad-lick and you'll end up at the station it's a couple of quid to get up there and you wont regret it - you will be exhausted though.
The food is fantastic, loads of fish and cous-cous. The best harrissa is made on the cap bon peninsular where hammamet juts out and is awsome stuff. Mint tea is the most refreshing and amazing this when you're flagging in the heat. Tunisians have a dead sweet tooth, some other juices are a bit much for my pallet but they're worth a shot.
Look out for the little lads selling nosegays (little bunches or jasmine flowers) they're cool and worth getting once but dont be pressured into it.
The roman ruins in tunisia are class too, try to head off to them though hammamet isn't really well situated for them.
I have vowed to return to tunisia as an independant traveller the people are really friendly if you show respect to their culture and can even learn a little of the language you'll be made very welcome.
I hope you chose to visit and have a great time.

Hiya im from the uk and was in Hammamet 3 weeks ago. My fiance is tunisian and we stayed at the hotel fourati. we had no compalaints about the hotel and would stay there agian. the rooms are basic but nice and clean. Hammamet is a nice place and it is easy to get around as taxis are always available and cheap!!!go to the medina for lots of bargains and dont forget to haggle!!!if you need to know anything else just ask.

I have'nt been to Hammamet but I've been to Monastir and it was OK the weather was nice at the time around May, nothing much to do outside Hotel, just sunbathing and shopping for cheap Leather. That was about 10 years ago though might be better now.

Hi, I have been to Tunisia twice and love it, but it's one of those places that you either love or hate! Hammamet is a nice enough place but I didn't spend much time there, and I guess it depends what you want to get from your holiday as to whether you will like it or not.
If you want to know anything in more detail, I'll be more than happy to give you as much info as I can.

ME ME!! I have been once years ago it was lovely, I had the best tan I had ever had in my life when I went there, it was soooo hot, I want to go back. There wasnt much to do out of your hotel we found, but that could have changed by now, so we hired a car and went for a drive about they drive a bit mad over there they love peeping there horns, there are organised trips into the dessert and stuff. If you just want to chill out on the beach or by the pool and get a tan I would defo recommend it, the beach wasnt packed either, there is nothing worse than being crammed in like sardines. I havent been for years though but we loved it. You need injections to go there. If I could go tomorrow I would. If you are clubber and want wild nights of drinking then I wouldnt recommend it.

I went there a few years ago and hated it. That's just my opinion and I'm sure many other people have had a lovely time there, but I found the place to be dirty, full of deformed beggars and when I went, the weather was dreadful. I vowed never to go back to north Africa, it has put me off for life.
