had the same trouble myself. I assume yours is also a Hotpoint!
Tried the normal route of checking out for faulty water inlet valves? You'll have to get someone to do that probably.
Anyway that wasnt the problem with mine and in the end it had to be replaced with a nice new Bosch one which is very quiet, highly efficient and doesnt dance around the utility room too much! My advice? Dont spend any money on it-just replace it. Try 365 electrical on the internet-always the cheapest and they'll even take your old one away fof £20 or so.

Are the water pipes connected properly? or the little taps to let the water in turned on? it could be that simple? failing that without being in front of the machine to diagnose the fault, I cant say more than that. Try the pipes at the back of the machine. Hope that helps.

Water pipe has a tap on it. Are they on?
Make sure that the waste water pipe has a good connection as this may make the machine not work as it will flood the house.
Failing that call a plumber or ask a friend who would know you must know someone who can handle this sort of thing??

Since there is water in the machine more than likely if its a simple problem its with the drain line. Most washers will rinse the clothes first then drain, add the soap and wash. If the drain is clogged it will shutoff. Other than that it might be something major.

If the detergent is still in the draw, are the clothes wet? It maybe that the water hasn't been turned on after you screwed in the pipes.

Unplug it from the electric take the top off via 2 screws at the top rear slide the top off to see if there are any wires come off the control panel, if all OK take the back off and do the same. Don't forget to put the panels back on before switching back on.

Is this a front-load washer? If it is, many of them have shipping bolts that are an absolute requirement for transporting them. Moving them without the shipping bolts can cause serious damage to the machine.
If not a front load, let me know and I'll see what else I can come up with for you. :o)

Have you turned the water supply to it on ? that sound most obvious to me, if you have turned the water on, are the inlet pipes kinked, or have you reversed the way the hot and cold should be fitted ?

The selector knob has been damaged or moved by mistake.
Pull the knob off and make sure it is in the proper position
Good Luck

Have you banged on the top and then switched off the power and put it back on again. If this does not work try "tutting" at it
