Yes - that is a peeve of mine. I have to practically restrain myself from screaming - "Could you speak up & quit f-ing mumbling?"

I hate when people mumble anywhere. BUt yes over the phone is bad. I work in Customer Service and answer phones all day and people call and I have no idea what they are saying.

aww do i ever, man there is this guy, he really liked me and kept calling me, but i couldn't understand most of what he was saying to me, he just mumbled on and on, partly the reason why i didn't like him in the first place lol. but i kept on having to say "pardon" or having to make him repeat what he just said hehe. it got tyring so i just stopped answering his calls... ; )

And I hate it when the person is obviously holding the phone (microphone bit) under their chin, practically up against their throat!
I'm always, like, speak INTO the phone!

Try hanging up. Then if they calls back, state to them that the call must have gotten 'dropped'.
