I thought they would be fighting for a playoff spot this year... but I guess they still are a year or two away... the young team does look promising for the upcoming near future... lets just hope all thier young players pan out...!
Atlanta will make the playoffs this year... that leaves the Columbus Blue Jackets as the only NHL team to never play a playoff game...
Next training camp, I think will be Leclair's 'make it or break it year'... If he doesn't turn out, they can try grabbing either one of Giguere and Bryzgalov; Nabokov and Toskala; Sanford and Legace; Vokoun and Mason; Fernandez, Harding and Backstrom...

properly, i'm a Boston Bruins fan, so i will seem at this objectively. Columbus does have a valid probability of starting to be the playoffs. it will be difficult with Detroit and Nashville of their very own branch, yet something is obtainable. The Western convention has the extra useful communities from suitable to backside; so it is not relatively undemanding, the possibility is there. The Blue Jackets have between the League's maximum interesting gamers in left wing Rick Nash and various of alternative former first-around concepts like protection-guy Rostislav Klesla, goalie Pascal Leclaire and forwards Nikolai Zherdev, Alexander Picard and Gilbert Brule. those youthful men will ought to step up and play a extra in demand function for the Blue Jackets to make the playoffs... David Vyborny is off to a speedy initiate...that may purely help their reason to attain the dream of make the playoffs this season.

Honestly, it might be a while. The jackets themselves are a roller coaster team, they need some hard core playoff experience to get the team itself on the up and up.
The fan base, however, is abysmal. I live in Columbus (Though I'm a Red Wings fan by the grace of God! ;-D). Honestly, no one here knows or gives a crap about hockey. And the people who do are pretty much all Red Wings fans anyways. While I would be heartbroken if they moved before I move from Columbus (I get to see 4 Wings games here a year!!!), it would probably be better for the franchise.

Never? I think they should next year, with their true talent level, Ken Hitchcock at the helm including the offseason time, and maybe they will knock Douggie McLean off of his high horse and send him packing. He has done some good things as well as bad, but I just don't think the players care if they save his job or not. The McConnell's owe him nothing at this point. He has been very well paid, gotten a lot of credit for very little, and every other expansion team will have made the playoffs after this year. Sad state of affairs when you have had such high draft picks over a decent period of time now, and nothing to reward some of the best fans in hockey yet. Buh-bye, Douggie!!!

I disagree with Wrf, I think Leclair is a good goalie, just fragile. He's one of the quickest from side to side that i've seen, but that also takes a toll on the knees. Norenna has shown to be the real deal (still giving a thanks to Tampa for giving us Norenna AND Modin for Denis!!!), but struggles on back to back nights, but he's proving to be a very good goaltender and I think he should be the #1 goalie.
It will be interesting to see what the team can do with Hitchcock having the team for a full year, off season included. Conditioning is starting to become a concern with this team ( and the penitentiary curse, but dont think Hitch can do anything about that!) and hopefully he will address that.
DM needs to add at least 1 legitmate #1 dman and #1 center. There's too many 5th and 6th dman on this team playing in positions theyre not ready for. Ole-Kristian Tollefsen is becoming one NASTY defensman to play against and Methot has been a pleasant suprise. But Foote is a 3rd dman at best and Klesla is #2 at best....so upgrading the blueline and a #1 center is a must.
So when will the Bluejackets make the playoffs...who knows, but now that Gallant is far away from coaching this team and we now finally have a true legitatmite NHL coach, hopefully we'll be fighting for that 8th spot in late March next year

Until they develop or trade for a good goaltender, they will not be a playoff team. They also need better defense. How long will it take? It depends on how long they take to do these things. Their forwards are pretty good, and are improving. They just need to learn to keep the puck out of their net. You really can't put a time table on that. With Hitchcock behind the bench, it might only be a year or two, but you never know. He needs the right players to work with, and right now he really doesn't have that.

When doug Mclean gets fired its possible. the Blow jackets are just a bad team and will not be good until Mclean is gone. the problem is when he is about to get canned he makes these job saving Trades ( Fedorov, Norrena, Modin) and holds on but columbus will not be a playoff team in the near future they have little to no talent ( Zherdev Fedorov Nash and Klesla.) are the only decent players.

Never. I think they should relocate to Hartford. Columbus is not a Hockey Town, so When Jonh Buccigros or how ever you spell his name said a few years ago that" Columbus and Detriot Red Wings will be a Michigan-Ohio st. rival someday", must have been on crack. Hockey in Ohio is a 4 tier sport. You will see, when Columbus keeps losing, attendance will drop, and Ownership wil consider selling the team. Besides their is way to much competition in the Western Conference.

They have a huge hole at goaltender. Leclair isn't very good when he is healthy, let alone after knee surgery. They need to give Norrena the starting job, he showed promise.

When Rick Nash and Sergei Fedorov decide to do their jobs and actually be the offensive stars they are supposed to be. Also their goaltending sux.
