I am shocked to c the illeteracy of people regarding Islam. What do you know about it?

After posting my first question I realised people don't even understand the religion. Whatever has been filled in their mind by the media is enough for them. But have any of u really tried to know it?

I think Muslims must first understand about ISLAM, then you can educate the world about it.

Illeteracy? Use spell check, my friend. Illiteracy is rampant throughout the world.
And, with regard to Islam, why are you surprised? That is, unless, YOU have provided sufficient funds to support/establish schools in a Muslim country, district or neighborhood in ANY part of the world. Remember what Malcolm X said regarding education, "Educate a man and you educate a person. Educate a woman and you educate a village, a nation, the world."
And, when it comes to the religious education of Islam, most times children remember and repeat the Nationalism instead of the lessons and teachings of the Prophet (s.a.w.). Why does it seem that there are more people that claim to be Muslim than those that actually read salah five times a day?
Why is it that acting/dressing/eating the "Sunnah" way is more important than practicing the truth/kindness/fairness of Islam?
Or, even, why is wearing a beard and insisting on eating halal meat MORE important than providing for your wife and children?
Muslim men need to educate themselves and, in turn, teach their wives and children how to walk the true straight path--without lies, blame, manipulation or deceit. To become the true head of their families, Muslim men need to study their religion, observe the teachings of the Haddiths and then...and only THEN...practice the Sunnah of their faith.
How can you be shocked at the illiteracy of Islam on this message board--in the West--if you, my friend, have not helped promote Islamic literacy in the Islamic countries?
Or is it simply to wind up the Westerners for an out-and-out row?

You are right in saying that people do not know what real Islam is. There was one question regarding Arab and Islam. Till date I understood Arab is different than Islam but now confused. Normally there are people in every religion who do not follow their own rules, so general public opinion always differs. Just like some Jain eat onion or egg.

Perhaps there are much misunderstandings in general public regarding muslims. Main problem started from Kashmir. Many communal riots are history in all major cities of India. Really it is a question what can be done now ?

Mohammed Nabi has said - go and get educated even from China. But in the present Muslim world especially in Pakistan the literacy rate is less than 30%, Indian also the same in Muslim population. Nowadays Muslims are involved in terrorism and other type anti Islamic activities.

It is true that Muslims r ignoring studies.According to me it is bcoz of their lack of knowledge in Islam.Allah says in the holy Quran that He shall reward heaven for those who search the path of education.But 2day our people have divided the education into two.One learning about Islam and the other about the worldly things.But there is no such difference in Islam.They consider learning only about Quran and Hadits will help people.The Quran contains many scientific truths which have been discovered very recently.How r people to know the whole meaning of Quran if they ignore science.So we should make them understand that both education r necessary.

Rizwan bhai u should not have touched this v serious issue either, once u have done u need to deal it responsibley.
And islam is no topic of discussion among those who dont belief . it is not for the people who prejudicially talk abt it ,who have been fed to condemn our holy religion , it is only for the ppl who understand and one thing should be v clear to every one that our religion is no pushy. if someone wants to live with any other religion no muslim has the right to push him to accept our religion.just express ur view if anyone wants to accept it, good ,otherwise Islam does not need many ppl .Human beings lie in the need for it.

Sure have, read the Koran cover to cover, the Torah and the Bible and have studied many of the other world faiths as well... an odd thing is how everyone of the "faiths" is interpreted differently by individuals and even those within the individual "faiths" argue and fight amongst themselves. Sad really when you get right down to it since the nitty-gritty of of all of them call for peace and treating each other well. But no....ego driven knuckleheads just have to attempt to brainwash others to attempt to make them believe like they do.

Not exactly. I have not seriously tried knowing about any religion in the world, including mine. However, I feel it is not what is written in religious scripts few centuries ago, but how the current societies derive inferences to suit their needs is the most important criteria to understand it.

You will agree with me that no one is against something written or preached long ago. But, everyone is concerned about things happening everyday in the name of religion. Do you agree ?

The Imams are vested interest, and illeterate, as not knowing legal Arabic and not self-realized with divine vision.
