Because people take it as a war!! one team against another team, each one wants his/her own team wins, as it was her/his country, and the game was a war!!!
When human beings has not a war, he invent it on other ways: games, sport, etc.
All that stuff to show "who's da man"

Its the only sport in which you can't take a lead and start stalling to run out the clock. It is far more likely for a normal size individual to excell at it. I realize this is becoming less and less so but nonetheless if you look in the Baseball Almanac at all the players who have ever made the Big Leagues you will find hundreds of men who are maybe 5'10 and 180 pounds and had good careers. Try doing that for the NBA or NFL. I'm not sure what answers you're looking for, none of that might necessarily make anyone enjoy watching the sport any more or any less. Good is a pretty general descriptive. I do lots of skiing and someone asking for a good way down the mountain can mean a number of different things. I think chocolate chip cookies are good but I'm not going to stand by the oven and watch them bake.

Because the very best offensive players are only successful 30 - 35 % of the time (42% is the all time best batting average in a season I believe), and we all can appreciate the challange because at some point most of us had time at the plate and can attest to how hard it can be.
You can't hide in baseball. Every play is determined by a single individual at every point which makes for extreme drama if you pay attention.
Baseball also offers a interesting lab for people who love numbers.
Unlike other sports where physical brawn can overcome a lack of fundamental skill, in baseball you either make the pitch, make the hit, steal the base, make the catch or you don't. It doesn't matter how big you are, or in most cases how fast you can run. All that matters in baseball is that you develop the fundamental skills to play your position, and bring all the focus and determination you can muster to the field...
All these things being considered how could you not love baseball?

First: Skill
Top Three in all sports in the amount of skill it requires to play. Throwing a ball accurately at such high velocities, hitting this ball with a wooden bat, how far the ball is hit with said wooden bat
Second: Tradition
It is considered America's past time, long standing tradition therefore should be preserved
Third: Fun to play
How many of us had a neighborhood pick up game?
Fourth: You?
Who are you to decide whether a sport should be played?
I must respond to this:
""It just is" does not count as an answer, it just proves that u cant answer a simple question."
This question is completely subjective and the quality of answers is solely based on your own opinion. Perhaps before you attack the validity of people's answers, you should realize this question is not logically valid thus deserves little merit.

Let me start by saying it starts in spring when everything is renewing, the trees are budding, the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, every team thinks it has the chance for it to be there year, and it just might be.For me Baseball is the greatest game ever invented,it teaches you everything you need to know about life and its ups and downs,if you have a bad day don't worry you will get another chance tomorrow to redeem yourself. My best memories are from playing with my brothers and all the rest of the kids from the neighborhood. Its well known the hardest thing to do is hit a round ball with a round bat.I say that anyone that doesn't like baseball must be a communist, because its America's pastime.Isn't this the greatest country in the world that we can go get a ole ball and bat and have fun

It is the ultimate game, it is the only sport that you can not orchestrate a play where your best player will get the ball to win the game. You must go with what you have at the moment. it is the ultimate chess game, and most skilled atheletes. The two hardest things to do in sports, is 1 hit a baseball, 2 throw a strike.

well kyle if you think about it baseball is the only major sport in the world that the offensive team does not have the ball. that changes the whole dynamic of how you percive the game. it completely changes defensive and offensive stratigies. while in other sports i.e. basketball, football, hockey, soccer the offense controlls the tempo and scoring of the game in baseball the offense is totally at the mercy of the defensive team which serves up opportunities for the offense to take advantage of. very unique game and other than cricket the only one of its type in the world.

Baseball is appealing to all age groups. It it relatively easy to understand without too many complicated rules (infield fly rule excluded). The nine players who start the game are mostly the ones who finish it (pitchers excluded). It's a fantastic way to spend time and relax! (Go Phils!)
