I have dogs and keep any smells in check using a combination of essential oil burners and shake'n'vac.
A really good cure is burning real sandlewood which you can buy as a jostic or a spiral - just hang these on a hook. I find this helps to actually neutralise odours and not just mask them

The best cure though is a proper carpet cleaner which you can (get from a good hire shop or Johnson's dry cleaners do them too) and a thorough deep clean - I would do this as a matter of course whenever I move into a new house as you never know what has happened on those carpets !

Well here's the trick to getting rid of dog odors, I am assuming you are talking dog odors in the carpet, ok the first thing you do if you have the budget to do this, is clean the carpet, with a rental steam cleaner or you own and what you do is add two cups of Vinegar to the water in the water tank, don't add the carpet cleaner just do it with White Vinegar, extract all the moisture out as normal then allow your carpet(s) to dry for at least a day to two days making sure you have windows open to allow aireation so molds won't be allow to grow. Then when carpet is dry you can then sprinkle some baking soda on your carpet and leave on for a few hours or over night then the next day or what ever length of time you have chosen you can then vacuum up the baking soda, thats it Dog odor gone, your carpet will be fresh and clean and sanitized by the vinegar it will be safe for babies and small children to crawl on even, Vinegar also brightens and whitens whites and colors, Note: there will be a little odor from the vinegar once it has been done just for a few hours then it will disipate. Good Luck !

Do a thorough clean - depending on how bad the smell is, you might have to wash the carpets. Febreeze doesn't really help - it covers the smell for one day...
Ge one of those automatic air fresheners (the ones which squirt the bottle every 10 mins or so) and hang it near the entrance door, so you aren't hit with the doggie smell the moment you walk in. Open the windows as often as possible and burn incense sticks a lot. The smell takes about 1 year to leave, but isn't as overpowering anymore after about 3 months.
In case the dog may have peed on the carpets or hard floors, you can get an enzyme cleaner (pee-away / odour-away) from petshops. Mix that in you carpet cleaning solution and wipe all hardwood surfaces down with it.

Joss sticks are the best way to remove all odours unless you can open a window. An open window is by far the best way to remove odours but joss sticks come a very good second. They are also excellent for removing tobacco smells.

If you can't get new carpets, then rent the Rug Doctor and gently clean the carpets w/o soaking them.

For spot treatments, try Zero Odor..beats febreeze hand down for odors esp pet odors.

Invest in a Ozonelite or Nanobreeze for continued odor removal.

There is only one way and that is to spring clean it!! Obviously you are only young (or you wouldn't be asking!) so you should start at the top of the house vacuum every room thoroughly, shampoo the carpets, even if they don't look dirty. Wash down the paint work , clean the oven etc. Bleach down the toilets and wash the outside of them really well. If that doesn't work you need to start on re-decorating the entire house asap!!!

if the house has carpet and the dog has peed on it you can never get it out cause it is all the way through to the padding . you will have to replace the carpet or it may have hardwood flooring under the carpet. try washing your wall down as well with soap and water.we like to never got Smoke ordor out of our house when we moved back in we had to replace all the flooring and paint every room and ceilings. to where they had turned yellow from smoking..the carpet smelled like a tobacco barn.

Open all the windows and doors and let the fresh air in, for starters. Then either get new carpets or get the existing ones cleaned. Take down all curtains and wash them or get them dry cleaned and generally give the place a thorough scrub from top to bottom.

It's called "Natures Miracle" you buy it at Petco or Pet Smart it is for pet stains and odors. I use it for everything and works awesome even on laundry stains. I even bought a gallon size and used it in my carpet steam cleaner. It takes away odor and doesn't just cover it up. I sound like a commercial huh? It has a double your money back guarantee on it so it must be good to back up that statement. I wish they would pay me for that testimony! But it really is a great product.
